I’ve been applying for SSI/medicaid since around 2022 in FL. I have stage 4 kidney involvement with lupus, arthritis, CKD, and heart and lung involvement. I can barely get out of bed most of the time and I have to have my roommate help me. I was denied at first so I got a lawyer, only to be denied two more times. I have to get my medication through a local clinic and the jobs I can do are extremely limited and not really available with the job shortage right now, and if I did, I still wouldn’t be able to afford insurance with a part time job, and it would likely cut my food stamps. They keep telling me I can work and continue denying me. I’m genuinely at a loss of what to do.

I’m not a lawyer, but have several cousins on SS disability. With my youngest cousin it took years to get enrolled. I know it took a lot of doctors. I’ve never understood how she qualified since she seems perfectly capable of working – but she put a lot of effort into the process and threw a party when she got enrolled. Then she got her husband in SS disability. So it is possible.
