I’m honestly so angry right now.
A dental office (South Dakota) refused to see me solely because I’m enrolled in Medicaid, even though I clearly told them I also have Delta Dental insurance and would be using only that. I was never trying to use Medicaid for the visit.
They told me they’re “at capacity” for Medicaid patients and then said it would be fraud if I tried to use Delta Dental without billing Medicaid. I’ve confirmed through federal Medicaid policy and Delta Dental’s own coordination of benefits rules that it is not fraud or illegal to use private insurance at a provider that doesn’t accept or bill Medicaid. You’re allowed to use Delta Dental as your only coverage if the provider doesn’t want to deal with Medicaid.
This wasn’t about billing I think it was pure discrimination for simply being enrolled in Medicaid. I feel completely dismissed and humiliated.
I’m thinking of reporting this to Delta Dental, South Dakota Medicaid, and the dental board, but has anyone else gone through this? Any advice?
