Desk rejected and need to vent

r/

Curse you editor for sitting on my paper since May and then rejecting it by saying i didn’t use weights! I used the damn survey weights. It is even written on my abstract.

Why did you wait for the editor’s response since May?! I would have withdrawn after not getting an answer within the first couple of weeks. I can see how peer review can take months, but a desk rejection/acceptance should come pretty much right away.

For people working with text, secure or local LLMs would be so valuable, but senior people are so reluctant to include them in the workflow. How many times have you gotten paper / grant reviews where a simple “This is my review. How would the authors respond? Are there obvious answers to any of my critiques?” would have resolved it?

I totally get how you feel. Apart from the quality of the paper itself, getting a paper published really comes down to a bit of luck.
