Dipping cookies in milk offers nothing and does not enhance the cookies taste or texture

r/

I’ve never understood the appeal of dipping a cookie in milk because it doesn’t add taste or anything and it’s definitely not as good when it’s soggy. It’s also just a waste of time to dip the cookie in the milk and soak it and not just eat the cookie

Cookies are infinitely better when soggy. Sandwiches too.

  3. hardzero4 Avatar

Personally I like eating a warm cookie and washing it down with cold milk. The combo is unmatched. Most people I know who are dipping are usually British bc they have those tough crackers that soften nicely in warm tea

  4. Weekly-Custard-9360 Avatar

100% disagree. It won’t always work with all cookies (like if they’re crumbly and will just fall apart), however, it will optimize the experience with good but dried out cookie.

  5. iShitSkittles Avatar

Makes em soggy for people with dentally challenged mouths though …

  6. camoda8 Avatar

Some cookies are better not dipped in milk. But some need it or they rip up your mouth. Sometimes it’s nice to cool off a warm cookie in cold milk. This is a subjective topic imho.

  7. sbineedmoney Avatar

I agree. So I take massive bites of my cookies and a mouthful of milk and do the mixing in-house.

Does it make me feel like a psycho? Sure. Can anyone stop me? Not even Batman with prep time

  8. tultommy Avatar

That’s ok. You can be wrong. It happens.

  9. MAGAsareperverts Avatar

If I were on death row my last meal would be 5 packages of Oreos and a half gallon of oat milk.

  10. Turgid_Thoughts Avatar

Buy some TimTams. Bite a tiny corner off. Dip it in coffee and shove it into your mouth asap.

Wash, rinse, repeat until you want to pass out.

  11. bibliophile222 Avatar

I rrally do like the temperature/texture contrast but I hate cookie crumbs in the milk, so I take a bite of cookie and then sip a little milk with the cookie still in my mouth.

  12. tkergs Avatar

I actually rather enjoy them that way.

  13. H_Industries Avatar

It 100% changes the taste, it tastes like milk and cookie. if you can’t tell the difference then I think your taster is broken.

  14. marinelife_explorer Avatar

Here when this post is only at 12 upvotes. This is a banger.

  15. Scared_Ad2563 Avatar

Bro, I will drown my oreos in my milk. I wait for the cookie to all crumble off and then eat the cream. Once I have a suitable about of oreo mush in my milk, I suck that shit down.

  16. Altruistic_Key_1266 Avatar

Something in your soul is broken.

  17. Cloud_N0ne Avatar

    Depends on the cookie.

But if it’s soggy, you’re dunking it too long

  18. Stephanopolousx3 Avatar

I dip my cookies in water 😩

  19. Single_Waltz395 Avatar

But you forget the added bonus of a gross, chunky glass of milk full of crumbs

  20. oakfield01 Avatar

Same. When I used to read thekitchn I read an article where it said dipping a chocolate chip cookie increased the flavonoids, so I tried again with both a warm cookie and room temperature. It’s terrible either way. Maybe it would help a stale cookie but that’s not saying much.

Just microwave the cookie instead. It’s so much better.

  21. No-Atmosphere-2528 Avatar

You said both it doesn’t and it does change the texture, which is it?

  22. vincec36 Avatar

Not all cookies are worth being dunked. If it’s soft and chewy you have no business dipping it in milk. You should take a sip after a bite. If it’s a drier cookie, you can probably dip it in and enjoy the new texture as the cookie saturates with milk. Not too long or you’ll it’ll break apart and you’ll lose a chunk of your cookie to the bottom of the glass

  23. martinomacias Avatar

Yes, I agree. It is a waste of time because you could use that time to get a degree at University… Of all the topics that could be more interesting you decide to bitch about others dunking their “galletas.” Really?

Cookie + milk = soggy cookie, wet fingers

    Cookie, then milk = good

  26. Top-Comfortable-4789 Avatar

    I think it’s gross I don’t want a wet cookie.

  27. ThrowRA2023202320 Avatar

This idiot probably prefers oatmeal raisin to chocolate chip and doesn’t like fresh baked cookies.

  30. Heviteal Avatar

Totally disagree. Soaking Oreos in milk just as they start falling apart is the absolute best!

  31. JigTurtleB Avatar

Finding know dude. Sucking the milk out of the cookie feels pretty damn nice…

  32. HairyDadBear Avatar

I also find it pointless. I just bake or buy softer cookies

  33. improbablesky Avatar

That’s an unpopular opinion if I’ve ever read one

  34. Neil_Salmon Avatar

I’m entirely neutral on this. It’s not for me but I get that some people enjoy it.

But tea is another story. Love dipping into tea. The problem with that is the longer you dip it, the better it tastes – because it gets soft and warm etc. – but if it’s too soft, it’ll break and fall into the tea, to the bottom. At that point you have to decide if you want to fish it out (difficult) or just leave it in (annoying).

  35. Annual-Duck5818 Avatar

Hard agree. Bite of Oreo*, then a swig of cold milk, repeat.

*soft-baked chocolate chip or white chocolate macadamia nut cookies work too!

    You’re just wrong

  37. Pope-Trauma Avatar

  38. NemoHobbits Avatar

Agree. Dipping is pointless and ruins both the cookie and the milk. Just chase the cookie with milk as God intended.

That is why you crumble the cookies into milk and eat with spoon

Milk transforms a Peperidge Farms Sausalito from being a dusty inhalation hazard into a damn fine treat.

  43. KateOTomato Avatar

I don’t dip but I like eating cookies while drinking water better than drinking milk with them.

If I’m eating Oreos I put a cookie in my mouth and take a big swing of cold water and let it soften up the cookie in my mouth before I chew and swallow.

Doing the same thing with milk would change the flavor too much, plus water adds no extra fat/sugar/calories.

  44. Sycopatch Avatar

Objectively, it does enchance the flavour though.
-Milk contains fat and water, which act as solvents for both hydrophilic (sugars, salt etc.) and hydrophobic (fats, oils etc.) compounds.

-Starch softening, cookies have starch that retrogrades (re-crystallizes) as they cool, making them loose flavour over time. Dipping them in milk reverses that process.

*Maillard products formed during baking are fat-soluble too and enhanced when dissolved in milk’s fat.

Subjectively, Lactose + Sugar + Salt + Fats is simply a great combo that complements each other.

  45. Ok_Armadillo_5364 Avatar

Depends on the cookie. Homemade, thick chocolate chip cookies in milk will get you sprung. Store bought sugar circles may just become wet.

  46. Violet351 Avatar

You don’t dunk it until it’s soggy

Try chocolate chip. Its literally chocolate milk. This post, while an unpopular personal position, is a stretch

  54. Objective_File4022 Avatar

First not unpopular opinion, but flat out wrong opinion.

  55. Clown_life Avatar

Wrong. I milk infused Oreo is vastly superior to a dry milkless freak of an Oreo. It takes skill but you need to eat it after the saturation phase but just before the falling apart phase.

It definitely changes the taste and it definitely changes the texture. Whether or not you consider either or both of those an enhancement is a matter of personal taste.

When you have to eat, in my case, gluten free cookies you NEED to dip the cookies because they are dryer than the Sahara.

I agree, I’ve never gotten the hype. You just end up with a soggy cookie and cookie particles in your milk. Though the waste of time comment is unnecessary, I don’t know what kind of milk ritual you do but it takes me quite literally less than 20 seconds to pour a glass of milk and dip a cookie in it.

  88. MaterialisticTarte Avatar

These are fighting words. Warm chocolate chip cookies further softened with milk are unrivaled in yumminess.

  89. dr_p_venkman Avatar

A quick dip of a Nutter Butter in milk is divine. Same goes for dipping in hot chocolate, or coffee.

  90. DotOneFive Avatar

You are absolutely correct, and it’s gross.

  91. BaskininRobins Avatar

    For me it’s always been:
Cookies & sipping milk > just cookies > cookies dipped in milk

I will say the amount of milk absorbed makes a difference, but there’s no real way to control that so I just sip instead of dip

  92. MassConsumer1984 Avatar

I am with you on this one. I never saw the appeal of it. I don’t like a soggy, milky cookie.

  93. elessar007 Avatar

I feel like this is a willful distortion of the concept of ‘milk and cookies.’ I’m positive the vast majority of people who enjoy cookies and milk don’t “soak” the cookies until they are “soggy.” For anyone to use that methodology as the basis for a negative opinion feels disingenuous.

  94. Sharp-Pop335 Avatar
