Do babies grow deep attachment with people other than their parents?

r/

I’m going to keep it short. My sister’s daughter of 16 months really seems to like me. She is always very calm and falls asleep when I hold her. Whenever she’s over at my house, she always runs right over to me and wants me to pick her up for a hug. What exactly does this mean for her connection to me? Would she remember or miss me if something happened?

Of course, they do. Babies’ brains are wild. They are like little mini Big Bang results in the process of taking in so much information we could hardly comprehend the sensation and experience of it. It is so traumatic the experience of being born, and reaching the age of 5 that our brains do a reboot then so we keep what we learned but forget all the rest.

They will cling to any familiar beacon in the storm.

Of course they do. Pretty sure my daughter likes her aunt more than she likes me and her dad 🤣
