Do people who drink often, feel like crap all the time, or is it because I don’t drink often, that, when I do, I feel like crap?

r/

Every time I have alcohol (doesn’t matter what kind) if I have one or more drinks, I will feel really tired, dizzy, and overall really bad the next day. Basically I get a hangover. Do people who drink frequently feel like this all the time but just don’t realize it? Or is it because I have a low tolerance that I feel the effects worse?

It’s usually dehydration that causes it coupled with the toxic affects of ethanol. If I’m hydrated and I drink I rarely feel like crap afterwards. I am not a heavy drinker or binge drinker at all

Yes, people who drink all of the time generally feel like crap but they’re so used to it that it seems normal lol

But it can be mitigated to a degree with proper hydration, exercise ect

I used to drink a lot in my teens and early twenties. Started getting really sick and hungover near the end. Now I only drink on really special occasions, less than 3 times a year.
I can be hungover for 3 days off 4 drinks sometimes. I’m only 30s and I’m quite fit, some people just shouldn’t drink poison.

This sounds more like an allergy issue than a normal reaction to alcohol… unless your idea of one drink is a box of wine.

    Some people are more susceptible.

I don’t drink all the time, but I like to have one drink with dinner every so often, and it doesn’t make me feel particularly bad.

But some people, particularly of Asian descent, have a mutation that affects how their body processes alcohol.

Stop drinking for a while and see how you feel. A lot of people feel like crap because they are unhealthy generally: poor diet, not enough exercise, over weight, etc.

If you can get your basic health right then most people stop feeling like crap. Obviously medical issues may change this.

Alcohol is a poison, so it’s not surprising it makes you feel like crap. Your body is trying to protect itself.

50’s here and 1 drink I sleep bad, more than 1 I feel bad.

I drink pretty frequently (social settings), and I don’t really feel like crap…..unless it’s red wine. Anything else I’m fine with. It really just depends on your body and how it reacts to alcohol.

I used to not get hangovers until about age 35… They are bad. I now rarely have more than one or two standard drinks because if I go all out I’ll have the following. A day of a true hangover, anxious as hell, thirsty, hungry, looking at my phone and email making sure I didn’t say anything dumb then. Then another week of feeling generally anxious and somewhat hypersensitive. When this starts to happen, in my opinion it’s time to cut back for our own mental health. I should have cut back way earlier now I get drunk once in a blue moon because of this. I should really never get drunk again. It’s not worth all of the after effects anymore. Since just one drink is making you feel bad maybe it’s time to cut it out completely. We don’t need this poison.

Former heavy drinker here- they get used to feeling like shit to the point that they no longer realize when they feel bad so they convince themselves they’ve become immune. They haven’t, they just forget what it’s like to feel good.

Alcohol is actually toxic for bodies

Your body let’s know even with food expires or allergic reactions

If you like crap stay away from it

This reminds me of that old joke…

Doctor, it hurts when I do this.

    Well, maybe stop doing that?

We feel like crap and are used to it. The temporary emotional escape it provides compensates for it.

When I was a heavy drinker, I felt like crap all the time. The brief respite when I got home was what made me feel like it was worthwhile. It wasn’t until the alcohol stopped shutting off the bad thoughts that I decided feeling like crap every day wasn’t worth it.
