My mother’s mate was pretty famous.
He used to go out just fine.
They go out all the time, just like anyone else. Didn’t you just ask this?
They do go out, they’re just probably more careful in general with what they do
I’m sure the places they go to have tight security to ensure the poors can’t get in
Just a little bit ago The Weeknd was walking around a street here in Westwood with security.
If it’s someone who needs protection from violent attacks, or from invasive paparazzi or stalkers, then they typically just have security companies, bodyguards etc. accompany them everywhere.
At the very highest of high profile – like, international assassination targets – their outings generally need some pre-planning, and they’ll have security people going places ahead of them to secure the area before they arrive, and stuff like that. (But for people with that kind of lifestyle, they’ll probably mostly spend most of their time in “already secure” places which are inaccessible to the public in the first place. They don’t need go out to the movies – they just have a screening room in their home base.
My grandpa tells me that he read an article saying that people who are super famous have a limited number of houses of other famous people where they can go and socialize.
REALLY famous people tend to live and travel in famous people places, where the residents are more used to it than in places where the likes of you and I live. New Yorkers and Londoners are used to seeing famous people, so don’t tend to freak out. Also, everyone is human, so if you’re in a restaurant with Julia Roberts, you actually don’t want to disturb her and spoil her meal, any more than you want to spoil anyone’s meal (even if you might expect to completely lose it). Obviously that’s not true of everyone, so they get harassed a bit, but not much. Whether there are particular fan groups, like Taylor Swift fans, who make it impossible for them to eat at MacDonald’s, I don’t know.
One time Mohammed Salah decided to go to a nice park near his residence in Cairo. Keep in mind this is a very fancy area of the city.
Things got so crazy that he had to call the military to rescue him via helicopter.
Some people are way too famous to be out there.
They get vip treatment, with security
They simply go out in disguise 🥸 Most of them are artists, they know exactly how to transform their appearance…
I believe I heard Michael Jackson once rented out an entire grocery store to go shopping so he could feel “normal”.
They tend to go to places that are used to celebrities. I worked at a hotel that had a lot of celebs staying, and while I never worked for anyone more famous than a reality star (i worked in events) my sister who worked in the restaurant met quite a few very famous a-listers.
We had to sign NDA’s to work there and they were strict about no social media/no mention of it outside of work.
From what I’ve seen in media, it’s what others said (security, planning, stick to affluent / friends places)…and also disguises. You won’t recognize them easily in day to day garb and a hat. I’d say that’s why most paparazzi shots catch them in sweats or jeans etc.
When you see celeb shots where they’re dressed for an event etc. (No disguise/blending with the crowd) usually you’ll see their security nearby too.
You can easily find their favorite hotels and go hang to spot celebs, it’s all over media – but it’s stalking and pointless. I doubt the avg people care as much as paparazzi and media do, celebs would be fine going out as a regular dressed person and most people would feel awkward to approach.
But then yea you have people like Michael Jackson, he couldn’t go anywhere you’d spot him. And fans were insane for him it’s not safe.
A vast majority of them still go out in public quite a bit, some might have security with them all the time and some might not go out at all. But I really don’t think there’s that many celebrities who are actually at the level of fame where they just genuinely can’t be out in public.
– They hire out bars for the evening and bring their own security
– most of them have multiple houses so they hang out there
– groceries, food, clothes and others are delivered or they pay a personal shopper unless it’s a really high importance thing
They go out in the UK all the time, because most (key word, most, there are exceptions) UK people usually have the attitude of not bothering them since they are clearly out on private time. You sometimes hear it’s why they enjoy visiting the UK, because they can go to a restaurant without being asked for a selfie constantly.
Peter Kay, rather famously, has been seen in his local supermarket cafes quite a few times
A lot of them just go out like normal, but it’s in places that it’s normal to see famous people
no one cares in NYC and L.A
Last week there was a video of Javier Bardem rocking out at a Judas Priest show.
Well celebrities are not going to go to the mall. They would get totally harassed.
I see famous people all the time at events, restaurants, and some airports/flights. They do leave their house.
As far as going to night clubs – that doesn’t happen as often due to everyone having a cell phone with a high definition video camera in their pocket and just waiting for them to do anything.
But back in the day, at the playboy mansion (when you weren’t allowed to bring a camera) – I saw lots of celebrities having a great time.
Dita von Teese said she puts normal looking clothes and a blonde wig and no one recognized her
This is why so many former presidents own huge ranches in Texas. As long as they’re on their own property they can mostly live like normal people.
Wealth is the thing insulating the very famous from the people who would mob them. Private jets get a lot of criticism, but can you imagine Taylor Swift trying to fly commercial? There would be a crowd crush in the departure lounge.
This is why so many mansions have things like movie theaters and bowling alleys. “Why not just go to a theater” if you can afford that home, you can’t. They hang out with their friends and family, but only at one of their houses, and in between it’s helicopters and cars with tinted windows.
It’s fortunate in a way that there are many ways to turn fame into wealth, because be all accounts fame without wealth is unendurable.
We recently had a famous up and coming actress move into the area. She has been seen at several restaurants, and people tend to leave her alone. She hosted a party and invited all her neighbors so they could meet. I felt this was a good move and aloud everyone to get to know her as a person. Despite her fame she seems to be able to live a normal life (ok but in a multi million dollar house.)
I had a friend who was the manager of a movie theater in Minnesota somewhere. Every once in a while, a guy would call up and purchase every ticket for one movie.
And that’s how Prince used to go to the movies.
Depends on the celebrity for example dolly parton I think it’s dolly parton learned if she dressed down in a outfit more common for a woman her age she wouldn’t be noticed.
Many celebrities probably exploit the fact that the biggest way we recognize people is context. People laugh about supermans disguise but in truth that actually works. The actor who players superman was getting recognized every time he went out to eat he thought it would be funny to go out and eat in his clark cent costume and no one recognized him.
Humans actually are really bad at recognizing people we mostly just use context and expectations before things like faces.
Is Kitt Harrington REALLY famous? Because my wife saw him in the wild recently. In 2004, I saw Thierry Henry filling up his car. He was a big name back then.
Famous people do go out they just go to planned events etc etc
Used to work on W57th in NYC, you would see celebrities walking down the streets being ignored like any other new Yorker
I think they go to places where only very wealthy people can afford to go. Very wealthy people already run in a lot of the same circles as celebrities so probably aren’t star struck, and therefore probably respect the celebrities space and boundaries more than regular people do.
You’d be surprised at how normal celebrities look in person, without makeup or specific hairstyles. I’ve seen several, here in Maine in the summer, and the only one I knew immediately was Willem Dafoe.
I imagine it depends. I saw Colin Farrell walking down the street chatting with a friend in New York last summer just like a normal person. Same with Julian casablancas, or James Murphy. No entourage or people following or anything. My buddy ran into Charlie day on his block too
I know they’re not like ultra mega celebs but Colin Farrell is a pretty big deal and at least in New York could go behave normally.
Mostly they just go out incognito. They’re also humans and you’d be surprised how much a hat/sunglasses/cheap clothes does to mask the identity of someone.
It depends on the person and how much they like/ hate getting mobbed. (Also define REALLY) see fluffy performances.
I think they just go out. Jimmy Fallon has been seen in many restaurants/bars in my hometown. No security or anything
People who live in LA are pretty used to seeing celebrities out and about in certain areas and most are pretty chill about it. Can’t speak for NYC but I’ve heard it’s similar there.
Shaq was at a restaurant opening in my little midwest town last fall. It took all of 30 minutes for it to turn into a shit show. Two people got arrested.
Dolly Parton used to go out with her husband who hated the limelight. So, she did some things to look different, and I’ve read that she’s virtually unrecognizable if you don’t know her personally. I’ve never seen it, so I couldn’t tell if that’s true or not
