Do you actually like homemade gifts?

r/

So my dad’s birthday is relatively soon, I cannot come up with anything to buy him that aren’t out of my price range, so I had the idea of making him a pop-up book card thing with the lyrics and illitracsons from the song piano man, as it’s his favorite song, always has been, I know you guys say you love it when you get something homemade, but do you actually, as I want him to have a good birthday and not just spare my feeling

I would treasure something like this from my kids! It sounds like something he would love, and something that will take thought and effort from you, both of which make for an amazing gift.

As a parent, I would always rather my kid made something for me than bought something for me. No matter how old they are.

I 100% do love homemade gifts.

Yes! I fucking love it when my kids put their time and creativity into doing something to make me happy. Like, how could you not? I’m not confident most of my kids could even name my favorite song, so something you’re talking about would be especially cool.

    I LOVE homemade gifts!

I’d love something like that. One of my favorite gifts my kids ever got me was a $5 apron they drew and wrote all over with fabric markers.

Honestly if I could get my family to stop insisting on giving gifts for birthdays and christmases I’d love it. I’m a grown man with my own money. Anything my family would buy for me for a birthday or Christmas I can buy for myself without having to wait several months. If you want to give me something personal and heartfelt that’s great.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Yes! It was Mother’s Day here yesterday and my daughter made a beautiful cross stitch design for me and put it in a frame. It went up on the wall immediately! She’s only 14, designed it all by herself, and made a fantastic job of it. Means more to me than anything else because I know how much time and effort she put into making this for me.

Of course! Even the shoddy ones that I throw out as soon as I can lol. If it looks great and won’t fall apart easily, I’ll definitely save it!

I cherish homemade gifts from my kids more than anything.

Of course, anything else I can buy myself so I hate when people ask what do I want. Whatever I could possibly want and cannot get myself then probably doesn’t qualify as a gift😂

I would actually cry if I received something like this!

    Edit: happy tears lol

My eldest is 27. I still have home made trinkets from when they were toddlers. Still use the home made wooden box and clay bowl to store jewellery, spare change etc.

I still have all of my mother’s day home made cards!

The best thing my kiddos could ever get me for my birthday is good memories of time spent doing something together with them.

What is your dad interested in and finds relaxing? Sitting in silence on a rowboat in a lake, fishing? Fixing up an old car? Riding a motorcycle? Shooting at a range or in the back field? Find a hobby of his, and ask him to teach you about it, or just hang out and learn by watching, be involved if you can, it would probably mean a lot to him.

Tomorrow is a hope, never a promise.

I have kept all the things my kids made for me. I love them.

I much prefer homemade gifts from my kids.

I have a dozen coasters, but every night my drink goes into a coaster my son made me that looks like a blue monster’s mouth ashtray with big chunky teeth around the outer edge that are accidentally exactly the right size to secure my glass. The top has 2 bulbous red eyes.

If I can love this, your dad will love anything you give him that shows you’ve paid attention.

    He’ll love Piano Man.

I have saved and deeply cherished every handmade gift I’ve been given. Especially from my children. Handmade gifts are far more meaningful than anything that could be bought imo.

I’m guessing you’re in your teens?

If that’s his favorite song, personally I would love to get something like that.

It wouldn’t hurt to include a day with him just the two of you. Give him that and some memories, and I think most dad’s would love it.

I do, but honestly some people do not. Only you know where your dad lands in that range. I will say this- my husband rarely appreciates a gift but is offended if not given one so the kids just get him any old thing. My son actually told his wife to quit trying so hard on my husband’s gifts because no matter what it is he will not treasure it. My point being is do what works for you and your dad. I personally think your gift idea is very special and unique.

1000% yes. This sounds like such an amazing thoughtful gift. Personally I would love this a thousand times more than a random thing I probably don’t even need.

I like giftmade homes. Recently received a bungalow constructed from Amazon vouchers.

The older I get the more I appreciate them. My daughter-in-law bought some inexpensive plastic cups and had my grand kids paint them. I wouldn’t trade those cups for a car 🚗

For Christmas daughter gave me a scrapbook she had put together with recent photos of her, because I so rarely take pictures of her anymore—most of her pics are taken by friends. I actually cried, I was so happy. Best gift I’ve gotten in years. We love presents like this—thoughtful, handmade, personal. You don’t have to spend a lot of money—just think about what would be meaningful to your dad. The card sounds like a great idea.

I would absolutely love this. I’d much rather get a gift that was thoughtful, no matter how it was executed than something that was just grabbed at the store with no thought or effort at all.
