I’m talking about someone who never asks about your job, money, or life status. They don’t expect anything from you. Whenever you meet them, it just feels effortless and uplifting.

I read somewhere that you are the average of the five people with whom you spend the most time. I totally believe that. That’s because their attitudes and beliefs have a way of rubbing off on you.
When I was in my late teens and early twenties, I had a group of friends who were just complete losers. No other way to put it, sorry. They liked to sit around and whine about how life had fucked them over. They couldn’t keep jobs or girlfriends or marriages. And it was always someone else’s fault.
So while I was working my ass off and going through college and dating, they would tear me down for it.
The last straw was when my father died suddenly. Only one of those guys showed up for the funeral. No calls, no nothing. Just the next time I saw them they said, “Bummer about your dad, man.”
I dumped them after that. Didn’t make a scene, but just ghosted them. The most liberating thing ever.
Have all the acquaintances you want, but choose your friends carefully.
These things aren’t mutually exclusive. I’ve got friends that energize me and we also talk about the personal shit. It’s all effortless.
I’m probably tooting my own horn but I’m that friend.
Never dawned on me to call it a friend but yeah, I suppose, coke really does pick me up when I need a little boost to get thru the day.

I have a couple of friends like that. They do, however, ask me about my job, my personal life etc. That’s what friends do, right? But they have an energy that brings me out of my shell as someone who’s shy and an introvert.
I have. I need him as much as he needs me. His energy and optimism lead to many unnecessary troubles. I am grounding his excitement 🙂
