Do you tell manager if received an interview for an internal job if manager gets notified through Workday that one received an interview?

r/

Large company and uses Workday says on company page employees should let manager know of interview received from internal job application as manager will be notified.

Would it best to let manager know of internal job interview or not tell them because telling them will jeopardize current job because they will be suspicious want to leave current role and am possibly applying for external roles as well and maybe even terminate for this reason.

Does it even make sense to?

If the culture of your workplace is good then your manager should support your decisions and help you in the application / interview process.

I’m aware not all companies are like this and only you’ll know how or when to approach your own manager.

I work in the UK and am a manager. We use Workday. The culture of the business and my team means we support our colleagues in their career aspirations so we should know prior to receiving any notification.

Yes. The first call the hiring manager will make is to your current manager. It should not be a surprise call.

I had a manager in the past who was genuinely a good dude and great manager. My coworker applied to leave our group and manager was super pissed he didn’t get courtesy notice. Manager didn’t do anything to block the move however. Manager did tell me later about it and warned me not o make the same mistake.

Part of your manager’s job is to help you grow and advance, even if it’s in another group. If you have a good relationship with your manager you should be talking about growth/advancement opportunities at m during annual reviews.

Good luck on the new gig.
