Nope, my acne was only cured by taking accutane. Topicals helped, but they required too much effort and consistency where if you missed one day then the next your face turns into a tomato, and even then it didn’t totally prevent breakouts.
Sometimes! But there are different types of acne. Hormonal acne may decrease once you’re an adult, and hormone levels even out a bit more. But, some people struggle with hormones – so the acne remains. Furthermore, some acne has to do with diet or general health overall. Some has to do with where you work and the chemicals in the air around you… what you use to wash your face… The list goes on. I think it’s easy for people to say, “you’ll grow out of it!” As a way to make someone feel better, or have some kind of light at the end of the tunnel. But it’s not always that simple.
Hell no. You need treatment for that. Talk to a dermatologist. I had very crappy acne up until I was 17.5. After that, I only get the occasional pimple like once every month. The only thing that sucks is the acne scars.
You know what the best treatment is on budget?
Pimple patches on Amazon. Look it up. Those things work, they aren’t fake.
Genetics must play a role also because there are people like me who get very little throughout their life (I’m 28 and never had more than 2 spots at a time) and others who never get acne at all so there must be a genetics factor.
I’m 35. I’ve been dealing with acne since I was 12. I can say that I don’t have the best habits, but I think genetics plays the biggest part, because I know people with just as bad of habits as me, with perfectly clear skin. So . . . in depends. . . I guess.
In my experience, mine got wayyyy worse at the age of 19-20 for some reason. I had decent skin prior to that. I got tretinoin and it cleared up nearly right away; now I get one pimple every month or so. My dermatologist was unsure about why my skin was the way it was, but it was still too mild to be explored further, so he gave me a prescription and off I went.
I couldn’t say, I’m odd duck that my mom was obsessed with my acne.
Adult wise, I have better skin when I am not doing too much with it. There’s all this talk about having a “multi step facial routine” and really scraping at your skin to get at gunk and blackheads. I tried, but I never found it useful to do everyday. My skin likes once every other day.
So part of what I would suggest is what you might be doing different as an adult vs as a teenager. Look at results and what your body is telling you. Your face shouldn’t be red from scrubbing it or applying ointments. Dead skin comes off without much effort – red is your skin being inflamed by an irritant.
This varies from person to person. For my case i had very bad acne when i was a teenager. That thing used to lower my self esteem. But with time i have seen radical changes- my acne just cleared.I only use suncreen and drinking plenty of water
I think I was in my 50’s before my acne started to disappear. I don’t know if it was age, or if I finally found the right soap for my skin; all natural tallow-based.
I hit puberty early and had terrible acne from 11 to 14 then it went away almost overnight. Just in time for everybody else’s acne to kick in. I remember one lad who used to give me a hard time when I was covered in it had the worst acne I’ve ever seen a couple of years later. One day he came up to me and apologised for the shit he gave me which meant a lot to me at the time.
Ah, the age-old question: does acne go away as you age? It’s like asking if socks disappear in the dryer—some say yes, some say no, and I’m just left with a collection of mismatched pimples!
I’m a guy, dry shaving with an electric razor always gave me irritation and pimples. Swapping to wet shaving with a DE Razor, using proper pre-shave creams, shave soap, aftershave splash and balms has cleared my skin up.
So fine a routine, wash your face and what not on the regular.
I was just looking at a picture of myself at 19. My face was clear, and I had no skincare routine. Now, I have a strict skincare routine, take antibiotics for acne every year or so, and if I breathe in the wrong direction, my face breaks out. I’m almost 37.
As a teen people would tell me “It’s okay that your skins a little oily now because you will look great when you’re older” Now I’m in my 30’s and have wrinkles and adult acne. It’s a nice excuse to treat myself for facials though
My kids have been going to the dermatologist for years even though they’re still in their teens. Go see one! They can tell by looking at you which type you have as there are different treatments for each one. They’ll prescribe antibiotics first, then some tretinoin (sp?) and finally Accutane if nothing else works.
Only thing I’ll add anecdotally – make sure you’re changing your bedding regularly… Like, your pillowcase should be twice a week. It worked for my son and I’ve suggested it to a few of my students with positive results.
Not always. I’m twenty-six years old, and I get acne from time to time. It’s not like I was a teenager, but I have it. It’s a sign that I’m still young hehe
I believe I found the answer to acne when I was 17. I had horrible acne and I figured that I should start taking vitamin A bc that’s whats in accutane so I took 3 pills a day and 2 weeks later everything was gone. After years of suffering. I couldn’t believe it
I think it depends on your skin type. I have fairly dry skin, so I didn’t have bad acne as a teen, and for the most part what I did have cleared up in my early 20s. I still get the odd pimple occasionally but not often. My husband had awful acne as a teen and his skin is still not great in his 40s.
Kind of? I still get whiteheads at 39 here and there, but nowhere near as much as I did as a teen. I got put on Accutane and it made a huge difference with some annoying side effects while on it.
It can, or it won’t or it will get worse or you’ll be left with scars. It totally depends upon a wide variety of circumstances and environments and genetics and other factors.
For me, it went away for a couple of decades. Once I hit around 45, it came back. Coinciding with my big hormonal change on the other side of life. My husband had a similar issue, but it’s not as bad as mine. Not that mine are horrific, but they’re definitely around more than they used to be.
It won’t go away if you have shitty diet in your youth and unchanging bad habits as you get older. It will all catch up to you later on in life. Worse if your genetics aren’t helping you out either. Speaking from experience here. Take care of what you eat, consume less sugar and get enough sleep daily. These will help more than just skin health as you age.
Yes it does don’t worry probably. I had really bad acne throughout middle and high school, after I turned 20 it faded away and hasn’t bothered me.
If it’s a bad enough problem for you, there is over the counter acne meds your doctor can prescribe, most of them damage your face making you burn in the presence of the sun. (My mom went on them in highschool and she can’t go in the sun, she doesn’t tan she burns)

Not always. Biggest lie I was ever told: “your acne will go away once you’re not a teenager”
Not always. They make medicines to help with it.
Not sure of your gender but birth control can help for women.
Diet, age, stress, and skin care routine can all affect it.
If you’re very uncomfortable with it talk to your primary care Dr and they can prescribe you something for it!
You need medication if you’re sitting waiting. Talk to your doctor about accutane.
My skin is worse in my 40s than ever before. I had great skin as a young person.
It can come back due to anything. Eating unhealthy, bad hygiene, and lack of exercise. Etc
Just make sure you have acne and not a separate bacterial infection. Sometimes, it goes away with something simple as a hydrogen peroxide.
Hormones are a common cause of cystic acne. So for females, puberty, your cycle, pregnancy, perimenopause and menopause can cause a break out.
Nope, my acne was only cured by taking accutane. Topicals helped, but they required too much effort and consistency where if you missed one day then the next your face turns into a tomato, and even then it didn’t totally prevent breakouts.
I think it might continue if you have oily skin
No, started during teenage years and still going in my 30s. Slowly trying different prescription creams for it.
Depends. I have PCOS and my acne is still with me (when I forget to take my spiro)
It did for me but it doesnt for everyone
Medication can cause acne as well. My spouse is on testosterone injections and their back is covered in acne.
Good diet, drink lots of water, exercise regularly, good hygiene. If you do this and see no results then see a doctor.

Mines didnt so i got on accutane.

NOPE.
Not for me. But it’s definitely not as bad as my acne as a teenager. Certain foods can worsen it so I avoid it.

It did for me, definitely. I used medication in high school but it improved starting in my early 20s and now at 50 a pimple is a very rare thing.

I was in my 40s before they disappeared. But that was also when I reduced my sugar intake and using less milk.

No.
No. Signed, 41 year old who hasn’t had clear skin since they were 11.
I think I was in my 50’s before my acne started to disappear. I don’t know if it was age, or if I finally found the right soap for my skin; all natural tallow-based.
Not in my case
No! I turn 53 in July and I still get fecking whiteheads on my nose, god damn it.
Mine did not. I was 26-27 when I finally decided to go on accutane
No
Normal teenage zits will but actual skin condition will not
Source: 35m 😭
Not mine. I’m in my mid 30s are get hormonal acne. Its likely worsened by certain foods.
No.
My mom had acne till her 40’s. Some people just get fucked with bad genetics
Usually yes. But for some it never goes away.
No
Depends on you. I had zero acne as a teen, but now I’m 31, I get a bumper crop of zits, particularly around my period
In my case, yes. That said, Accutane played a major role.
It can for some people… guess it depends on the cause…
Mine did but it doesn’t happen for everyone.
I hit puberty early and had terrible acne from 11 to 14 then it went away almost overnight. Just in time for everybody else’s acne to kick in. I remember one lad who used to give me a hard time when I was covered in it had the worst acne I’ve ever seen a couple of years later. Mine only started at 26
No.
For me, yes. In high school I had acne literally everywhere. Back, chest, arms, and especially face. It all vanished when I turned 21 though.
Ah, the age-old question: does acne go away as you age? It’s like asking if socks disappear in the dryer—some say yes, some say no, and I’m just left with a collection of mismatched pimples!
Good skin care helps.

Mine finally went mostly away at age 28! I still get a zit here and there but nothing close to the cystic acne that I suffered from for 18 years.
I believe I found the answer to acne when I was 17. I had horrible acne and I figured that I should start taking vitamin A bc that’s whats in accutane so I took 3 pills a day and 2 weeks later everything was gone. After years of suffering. I couldn’t believe it

Took me till 24 to clear up it was a god send and boosted my confidence enormously

Mine got worse. Yay 💃
Sometimes it gets worse, especially around a woman’s time of the month or stress.
Yes it does don’t worry probably. I had really bad acne throughout middle and high school, after I turned 20 it faded away and hasn’t bothered me.

People will tell you that it will – they’re lying to you. It won’t be as bad once you’re an adult, but you will still get some.
I had bad Acne from 10 – 16.
Let’s just say that when I turned 17 life started becoming pretty good.
It gets better but doesn’t completely go away
No. I will be 40 before the year is up. I am constantly trying to treat acne and battle wrinkles at the same time.
I had my fair share of acne as a teenager. I still get it as an adult from time to time but it seems like the frequency is far lower.
