Between Trump’s plans to deport U.S. citizens to concentration camps in El Salvador — and his tariffs that are breaking the economy, it’s hard to take anything else seriously.
I keep seeing headlines about tech launches, celebrity drama, or minor political spats, and all I can think is, why does any of this matter when the stakes are this high? All women space launch good for them but like who cares?
Is anyone else feeling this way?

>Does anyone else feel like every other news story is dumb compared to Trump trying to destroy the economy and deport citizens?
Yes, but have you considered how effective a strategy that is for them?
They can be doing 100 other awful things, but people are less likely to notice because the attention is (somewhat rightly) devoted to the biggest complaints.
I got sick of the constant doom and gloom of the news myself, turned it off completely now and I have much better mental health for it.
Got a weather app and listen to traffic on the radio anymore is it.
Yes. It really got everyone’s mind off Hegseth and his violation of OPSEC on Signal.
Oh, definitely. And honestly? I miss when it was just dumb news and not shit I have to actively tune into for fear that I’m gonna end up in one of those raids someday despite being a born citizen myself. I miss when news was just boring or sensational… :/
Yes, more or less.
There’s some stuff that I can understand being trending news, like sports or something.
Theres plenty of other puff pieces that very clearly feel like distraction and contrived controversy. The whole Katy Perry “space launch” thing is definitely contrived bullshit ment to both stir up controversy and distract. I’m skeptical about how genuine the attention is, at least initially, and can’t help but feel like this is a paid media campaign to inflate discussion of her and the company that did the launch.
No. There are a lot of important things going on. It’s stupid to ignore them just because we feel stressed.
They’re flooding the zone. Just like they planned to.
Yes. Even pundits I love making jokes to “lighten the mood” now feel grossly out of line. This isn’t a joking matter anymore. We need to do something.
We have to do what my mother said to do when I had kids who could wear you down and play video games all night while gorging on ice cream and nerds: “You just have to outlast them.”
Say no.
We have to keep saying no.
to quote mad men
“an hour of news and not a word about the holy father”
“he’s still dead ma”
yes it’s the biggest thing going on, but the world is still turning.
Apparently, MSNBC agrees.
The guy from Maryland is not a US citizen. He is a citizen of El Salvador, so pretty much a non story.
I don’t see much changes in anything as a result of the tariffs (gas prices, groceries, fuel overall) , seems like it is a wait and see on that. Tariffs could go bad, could go great. It is a wait and see. The women in space thing is dumb…no one cares.
I’m getting pretty sick of “SoAndSo DUNKED on Trump!” stories.
Like… I don’t care. He doesn’t care. No one cares that someone called out his hypocrisy. Go do something real!!!!
I’d go as far as to say Trumps Deportations and Ignoring of SCOTUS/Federal courts is more news worthy than the economy. Our democracy is literally being tried to its limit and the news is talking about fuck all half the time.
Yes a lot of it feels like a big distraction to make us take our eyes off the ball. Some people probably welcome these distractions because listening to all the BS coming from this regime on a daily basis is overwhelming and depressing. So maybe it’s meant to keep our spirits up? Or maybe the media has been threatened (with cancelation or lawsuits) not to report on the bad stuff? Regardless, I’d rather know exactly what’s happening so I can prepare for what’s coming our way.
I’ve even noticed all the reporters on my local morning news broadcasts are even more upbeat, cheerful, smiling, laughing, joking with each other more than ever before. It all feels so fake and phony, like they are putting on a performance or putting lipstick on a pig.
Ignorance (what most people seem to choose) may be bliss, but it’s not for me.
You know, I’ve actually been getting that feeling lately, what’s happening with El Salvador is just so beyond the pale and has such extreme implications for overall due process and citizenship.
That being said, I need to remind myself that this nation is very large and we do have room to care about a whole lot of things. It would be irresponsible to drop everything else to continue redundant coverage about El Salvador.
That’s also what’s making journalists despondent here – part of the problem with El Salvador is that we are largely in the dark, i.e. there’s only so much you can report. They can report on the people who’ve been taken and the people who know them, which is what most responsible outlets have been doing.
I think sometimes we make the mistake (very much including myself here) of treating journalism as if there’s a finite amount of it that can be produced. That’s partially true, in the sense that a journalist can only do so much, but there are countless journalists who could be working on a whole lot more if they had the proper patronage.
So yes – I completely get where you’re coming from emotionally, and I often share that feeling. But we do have the space to do more and it’s on legacy and independent outlets to do so. There is a cap on how much we can say about El Salvador and journalists are already doing a lot there. We have room for more, especially now.
Except they aren’t citizens 🤗
That prison in El Salvador’s been open for a bit and, as far as I can tell, no one has ever been let out, and yet they keep sending people there… everyone thinks they’re flat-out killing the prisoners, right? How else does the math math?
The news about NORRA potentially passing senate is just as important imo. If the bill passes it would strip the judicial branch of its power to enjoin potentially unconstitutional executive orders.
I think we should still be talking about Signalgate personally. I bet much more than just that classified information had been illegally shared and deleted via Signal in violation of the Freedom of Information Act, and several people, including DNI Tulsi Gabbard, lied under oath to Congress about Signalgate to absolutely no consequences. That should be talked about for the next few decades.

I often find myself wondering; as the country has gotten some bad with the loss of our democracy, a fascist in the Whitehouse and a imploding economy; how is it that everyone seems to be going on with life as normal.
The Abduction & Rendition program is absolutely the more important of any of the stories, followed closely by the harassment of lawfirms and educational institutions. These are both right out of the fascist/Nazi playbook (literally two of the more evil and destructive things Hitler did in the 30s leading up to the Holocaust). If ever there were a time or things to jump on that, it would be these two things, and right now. The threats to take Canada and Greenland are also noteworthy, especially the rhetoric around Greenland, still, too.
The economic destruction is bad–but something we could recover from and not a stain like the Holocaust is for Germany. If Trump and his cult get their way, we could have something much worse than the Native American genocide in our bloody history to look back on 15-20 years from now.
And his firing hundreds of thousands of government employees and attempting to severely hobble necessary programs.
That’s what a lot of the media does, treats celebrity drama with the same impact as major international issues. In a way that helped Trump, he was a celebrity and so people thought that he’d be good as POTUS because he was such an exciting character.
