Does it seem like feminist subreddits are being manipulated?

There has been an increase of posts from (what seems like) incels or bots programmed by incels. They always use the same language and have the same uncanny valley feel to them.

The post topics are always:

  1. Sad woman promoting purity culture.

  2. Dissatisfied woman questioning the value of sexual liberation.

  3. Regretful woman feeling worthless for not having kids/being married.

  4. “Feminist” angry about other womens’ feminist choices (wearing making/dressing freely/watching porn/having casual sex/etc)

  5. Oblivious woman presenting a setup that readers can only interpret as, “wow. It sounds like feminism is the problem.”

Every person is different, but these posts never feel like they’ve come from a woman’s lived experience, and just feel like wolf in sheeps clothing. It’s the familiar feeling of reading a female charactar written by men. And it seems like a covert, fear mongering tactic to scare women back into conservatism.

Not to mention, the comment sections and voting outcomes have taken a sudden shift.

And it’s not just feminist subreddits. The algorithms seem to have changed across nearly every major platform, with an influx of incel bots or something? This wasn’t as prominent when I switched my VPN server, so it seems influenced by location.

I’m definitely seeing an uptick in misogynistic comments that feel written by men.

“the familiar feeling of reading a female character written by men”

This exactly. Are they bots? Or just gross trolls?

I feel like I am now going to notice is but I’ve been heavily in the TimePrincess and ShiningNikki to really notice anyone else 🙃

We’re seeing the same over in the once wholesome r/Daddit. Multiple posts removed and people banned for trying to discuss misogyny.

Yes, but manosphere bros messing with women’s subreddits is not new. TwoX exists because manosphere bros camped the names of obvious women’s subreddits. The head mod of the feminism subreddit is one of them. There used to be articles about him on Gawker, but they got taken down when Peter Thiel won his lawsuit.

Here’s a book on the subject:

I’m it sure about feminist subreddits, but women focused ones have somehow seemed more misogynistic lately by far. Like the majority of the comments acting like leaving an abuser is bad, or other women existing in some inoffensive but sexual way is bad.

I know there have been valid critiques of hookup culture that really just are about patriarchy and men treating women badly, but I get the sense that unlike millennial feminist, younger women missed some of the core values of sex positivity. While they may be bots, there also unfortunately is a big rise of transphobic rad fem content aimed towards young women that promote the idea that women can’t enjoy sex, so any sex a woman has is inherently only for a man and never something for her own pleasure.

It’s so dangerous because consent really has a lot to do with us being connected to our own pleasure, even our own emotional needs and wellbeing too, and not doing things just to go along with things because it’s expected.

I hope women don’t feel worthless for being single and without kids, but I also know I’m lucky to have had a relatively feminist upbringing, and sadly my experience of having no pressure to have kids seems to be very rare. There are very patriarchal evangelical cultures out there, so sadly to me I could understand those being real women, but also get how icky it would be if they were written by bots.

    Likely Russian troll farms…

This + all the comments disparaging birth control, even when birth control wasn’t the topic of the thread. It’s nefarious as fuck.

You have a lot of time on your hands when you’re jobless and living rent-free in your parents’ basement.

i’ve been seeing posts of all kinds of subreddits recently complaining about an uptick of ai posts. i wouldn’t be surprised if the same applies here

Yeah. I see it and even though its laughable, it’s not harmless. I keep in mind that propaganda works in subtle ways, repetition affects perception even when the person seeing the information 100% knows it’s false…and also, these posts are used by incels trying to prove their own points.

The head mod of the two main feminist subs is a men’s rights activist.

I’m banned from both Feminism and AskFeminists for criticising liberal feminism. Apparently that automatically makes me a conservative when in fact I’m a socialist. It’s like they’re unable to conceive of feminist ideology any further left than American liberalism so of course I’m a conservative. Which is frankly insulting. They literally told me conservatives are “not welcome” in their sub. I’m a fucking socialist! So basic.

I had to leave /r/feminism because they think kink is harmful to women, full stop. Like us women who enjoy this are actually just brain washed.
