I think we are mostly ambivalent. Puerto Ricans are really not that outwardly focused we are kinda not very aware of what’s happening outside the island unless it involves PR in some way. When she wins something or is having a moment will pay attention but that’s about it. The same can be said for most stateside born famous Puerto Ricans.
For the average American she might be in general the most recognized Puerto Rican together with Ricky Martin. But she isn’t out there like “being” Puerto Rican especially in the last decade or two. Younger Americans would probably recognize Daddy Yankee or Bad Bunny before her.
I think really Bad Bunny is the only famous person that is actively “being” Puerto Rican and engaged with his Puerto Ricaness when in public 24/7. Jennifer is just an actor/singer that is Puerto Rican if that makes since.
On a list of technically Puerto Rican to Puerto Rican actors. Where Joaquín Phoenix is 1 and Benicio del Toro is 10. She is like in the middle between Rosario Dawson and Luis Guzman but nowhere near Rita Moreno.
