I live in California and have a situation. I gave a dog to a family friend 2 years ago since i couldn’t keep it and she wanted it . I gave her the dog with all the paperwork and vaccination records. I guess her neighbors complained recently about barking and she is wanting me to take the dog back or pay a fine. Am I legally obligated to take it back? I can’t at this moment and she’s telling me she’s gonna have the city send me the citations. Am I legally obligated since she never changed the ownership to her name ?

In cases like this, it’s more dependent on who feeds and takes care of the dog rather than who’s “owns” the dog
