Doors on kitchen cabinets are inconvenient and unnecessary

r/

I have doors on my lower kitchen cabinets but everything else is either on open shelves or hanging. I hate having to open the lower cabinets to look for things and am always happy when what I need is already visible to me. Is hiding pots and pans behind doors for astetics really worth the effort of opening a door or is it just because I forget where I put everything?

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess no cats/dogs or kids in the house LOL.

I don’t even bother with cabinets, I just put everything on the floor. No longer have to go through the massive inconvenience of opening a door.

Wait until you get kids. Not only will your dishes look like unorganized shit, but they’ll want to fuck with all that glassware and ceramics.

I don’t like grease and dust all over my dishes.

Definitely an unpopular opinion! You got my upvote.

How many cabinets do you have that you can’t remember what is behind each one? Or are you just so disorganized that you don’t have any type of system?

As someone with cats, I must upvote. Wild take.

I’ve gotten rid of all doors on my property. Way less hassle. Thinking all these walls are not much better than doors.

I’m with you. Its just an annoying inconvenience. Never worked in a kitchen that hid all the utensils in a cabinet. Kitchens are where work gets done, I don’t need an extra layer of bullshit between me and the job. Why would home be any different?

Half of my cabinet doors were removed.

If i cant see it, brain says it doesn’t exist. Big fan of shelves and hanging things up.

Yeah, that’s unpopular. I prefer my dishes not to have dust, grease, and dog hair on them.

    I have cats.

I dont think I need to explain anything beyond that.

Do you not have specific cabinets/drawers for different items?

I don’t think I’ve ever really had to search for anything except the kitchen shears. I already know where it is, and it goes back to the same place when I’m done

Not only do doors protect the items inside from grease, dust, and other general nastiness, they also protects your eyes from clutter.

    Take my upvote, lol

Keeps your stuff cleaner, nothing like something splattering on the floor and then all over your clean dishes in the cupboard. Things get dusty way faster as well and children /pets will be all over it even more. Also it easily looks cluttered and messy. So even if your kitchen is clean and tidy and organized, it easily gives a very different impression. I currently have no doors to my cupboards as my kitchen is very open concept and I absolutely hate it and spend a lot of time rewashing things before I can use them.

Have you seen the open shelving trend?

I do not want the Dollar Tree plates on display. Nor does anyone need to be privy to my plastic cups and assortment of coffee mugs.

My snack cupboard is a chaotic mess and it absolutely is worth having to open an opaque door to hide that from site. Out of site, out of mind. I forget I have all those tastey little snackies until I’m in a mood for a tastey little snackie and go looking.

I’m kinda with you, it’s supper convenient to just have shelves

But there are two reasons I value doors. (1) Less dust (2) Childproofing. The more food and cabinets you have in your home the easier it is to childproof

Kneeling down and opening a cabinet door is so hard
