I’m watching DBGT for the first time and if you’d ever heard of the series – the fans will let you know they hate it.
But it’s NOT BAD. I’m 15 episodes in and this season is pretty good.
I understand why people DO dislike it – and then follow through with the usual Nerd-Dogma of “Everyone has to hate the shows i hate”.
But I’m enjoying the ride.
It’s just a whacky space road trip show featuring Goku and Co.

I watched it as a kid and SSJ4 dragon punch was the coolest shit ever

It has ASPECTS that aren’t bad. It’s just the execution that’s bad and that isn’t true everywhere.
I think GT is when most people see the elements of the Dragon Ball story and not just the spectacle, so they hate it. Dragon Ball is a lot of people’s first introduction to large scale destruction from a single being and rising stakes so getting to GT and it being a much slower story compared to Z makes them feel like it’s not great.
For me, GT is when I realized I couldnt be satisfied with Toriyama’s implied story progression my whole life and sought out a bit more. Only a little bit tho cuz Naruto wasnt muuuuuch deeper for a while
YES. My theory is that people hate DBGT because they were older by the time they watched it. The opening alone is worth the watch. I do admit it’s boring as shit in the beginning, but when it gets going, it’s exceptional.
