Economic migration

r/

Do you think economic migration will ever be a thing of the past?

(Thinking specifically of Latinos moving to richer countries, rather than people moving from richer countries to Latin America to work remotely / retire)

As long as corruption continues to be a problem, people will continue migrating for better economic prospects.

I hope no! The quality of living of riches countries is derived by credit cards. Their personality and interaction with others is also shallow. No sentiment of family and no appreciation for others without equal income.

A few Latin American countries will prosper and eventually become developed (Chile, maybe Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Argentina -if continues this way-) and people will move there more and more frequently.

The USA will continue to receive migrants from Mexico and Central America not only for economic reasons, but also cultural (in Latin America we say that “Mexicans don’t cross the border, the border crossed Mexicans” meaning that they have lived in those lands for 500 years or even millenia, US Americans won’t get rid of them easily).

For the rest, yes, economic migration will continue. Most Latin American countries will always be poor due to a lot of internal reasons not even worth explaining anymore.

I didn’t know if I completely understood your question, it sounded it encompasses many aspects.

    • Do I think economic migration will ever be a thing of the past?

No, I don’t. Migration is just one of the wheels of the World.

    • Do I think “Richer countries” meaning “this conception doesn’t include Latin American Countries” will ever be a thing of the past?

Yes, I do, for sure. Not in an immediate future, but considering the clear signs of american (not including Canada) and european (not including Eurasia) declines and rise of the Global South, “going to Richer Countries” WILL BE “going to some places in Latin America”.

    • Important information 1: migration INSIDE Latin America is HIGHER than migration from Latin American countries to “Richer Countries” (broad concept, maybe you could specify regions or countries? The world is changing fast, faster than europeans and US, and even Oceania expected, I guess)

    • Important information 2: Do you understand that people come to Latin America not only to work remotely but also to get other gigs? Have you ever thought that if people are migrating from “richer countries” to Latin America is obviously because their are looking for a better life as well, meaning their original places aren’t good or interesting for them anymore, considering their salaries.

    • Do I think Latin America as a cheap place to just come and live to retire/work remotely because of the rate exchange currencies will be ever a thing of the past?

Yes, I do. A weak EU devasted by wars (maybe they will suffer with a WW3?) with outdated economies, stricter immigration policies and high prices to live, the american decline (not including Canada), the dedollarization around the planet, climate pressures and natural disasters in some places of Central America/some Islands of oceania and in countries like Australia and New Zeland, the exponential economic shifts, new visas policies down here and the Global South are some signs that future points to a new horizon for the next decades, in my opinion.

No. Most of Latin America will remain economically stagnant through at least the end of the century.

US incomes will continue to diverge upward due to productivity gains from leading global technological innovation.

It’s been a thing from time immemorial. Germanic tribes moving into roman lands, celts moving into Anatolia, the Irish moving into the US, etc.

People always try to find better lives and some places have it better than others.
