For the life of me, I will never understand how you people wake up and decide to eat eggs in the morning. The texture is a nightmare no matter how they’re cooked, the taste is even worse, and the smell might as well be someone farting in your face. I just don’t understand, and never have. The only eggs I will eat are in breakfast burritos and sandwiches where the flavor is HEAVILY masked by the other ingredients. These are usually limited to fast food burritos and sandwiches since a home-cooked egg basically can’t be masked by anything, in my experience.
When I say I hate eggs, I usually get one of three responses.
1. “You just haven’t had them cooked well/in a way you like” My brother in christ I have had eggs cooked by at least five different people in all sorts of ways. I refuse to believe that none of these people were capable of cooking a decent egg, Im quite sure I just don’t like them.
2. “But eggs are in cake and stuff. You don’t like cake?” Ok you know damn well what I meant by “I don’t like eggs.” Obviously when it’s in some kind of batter or mix, I don’t taste it. That cannot be a serious question.
3. “But they’re so good for you!” Yes, eggs are high in protein, I know. But I could literally go have a meal with poultry, fish, beans, legumes, etc. and get my protein from a source that tastes better and is perfectly healthy.
Idk, I just don’t get the appeal. I’ve never had an egg that didn’t immediately make me want to projectile vomit all over the place.
Edit: “This isn’t an opinion, this post sucks” ok so scroll past it then??

eggs are yummy
How old are you? Because when I was a teenager I was the same I never understood why anyone have boiled eggs or scrambled. Then I became a broke uni student and 1.50£ eggs for breakfast I decided to try lol, I super hard boil them with toast and ketchup. Now I actually started to like all the ways to make eggs.
There are 1000 different ways to make eggs though. This is like saying rice or bread is disgusting.
I will say though, the first person to eat an egg was a freak. Who the F saw where that thing came from and thought, “food?”. It had to have been raw also.
I have a love/hate relationship with eggs. That is mainly because when I was pregnant, the smell of eggs made incredibly nauseous. It took me a while to get the courage to eat eggs again after that.
I think you earned your upvote.
I feel like eggs are one of those things that if you have them as a kid, you’ll always like them, but if you never ate them as a kid, they’re tough to get into later in life.
Good unpopular opinion. Actually unpopular.
One of my favorite food is egg’s with “virado”, one mix of beans, farofa and oil. Take that americans.
Guy Fieri over here.
Upvoting because it truly is an unpopular (and weird!) opinion.
Yeah I don’t like em either. I like the idea of eggs, like naturally pre-portioned protein snacks. But I’ve never been able to tolerate the flavour and texture. I don’t care for the smell of them cooking either. It weirds me out how the taste and smell are so different, like how does that happen? I don’t know, not for me.
I have to agree with OP. Well sort of.
I eat eggs as a breakfast protein, but I never really liked the taste of eggs.
Thankfully it’s not a strong flavor. A tiny bit of salsa or whatever and you don’t even taste the egg
Most people dont have problems with texture & some like the taste of eggs lmfao. Personally i hate hard-boiled eggs for the taste but i love other types
I love eggs. They’re so versatile.
The fact that you describe the smell as “someone farting in your face” tells me you’ve never had eggs made by someone who knows how to cook them.
You’ve only eaten overcooked eggs, which are in fact, gross.
I haven’t had an egg voluntarily in my mouth since 1975, when I first began to eat solid food. I won’t even do breakfast burritos with lots of stuff. I just can’t do it.
honestly I understand. I love eggs personally but I have this exact same thing with mushrooms. Cant twist about taste, after all. Must suck though
This is how I feel about sushi. I literally don’t understand how people love it. It tastes like the smell of low tide for me. I usually get the same response from people – you just haven’t tried it properly. I’ve tried it at high end sushi restaurants, with wasabi or other condiments, from local hole in the wall joints, etc. it’s just nasty and I don’t understand how anyone views it as enjoyable to eat.
Sorry I took your egg rant and turned it into a sushi rant.
I know plenty of people that don’t like eggs, but it only bothers me to hear them say it after watching them eat eggs I’ve made lol
I hate eggs, agreed.
Yes this is an unpopular and bad opinion. One upvote
Absolutely agree, eggs are rank r/egghate
I’m very picky about eggs and get tired of them far quicker than any other food. Except deviled eggs. I can eat those for days and still want more if they are made correctly.
I can’t stand it when people say “oh you don’t like am ingredient in this product, must mean you don’t like this product either”. It’s such an asinine take.
Lol I agree. Eggs are gross except when you use them for French toast.
I know several people who hate eggs so this isn’t that unpopular.
The texture and taste are a nightmare to you. Not for everyone. Scrambled or over easy eggs barely have any smell for me.
Saw a very similar post a couple of months ago on here, so I’ll just reiterate my point from then…this is very much a you problem. Clearly a lot of people love eggs, but you just can’t fathom how this might not just be to your taste and instead you have to talk about it like you’re above people who eat eggs. For example I hate tea & coffee, but I don’t need to be saying “I don’t understand how you lot drink this stuff”…I just put it down to different strokes for different folks and leave it at that.
It depends on how they’re made. So.e ways are in palletable for me.
The texture is different depending on how you cook them… silly
Peppers and eggs? That’s what I should have had – Junior Soprano
This is no different than hating any other kind of food. I personally can’t stand pickles, I hate raw onions they can only be sauteed caramelized for me to stomach them. I don’t eat mustard, sauerkraut, coleslaw, really the list goes on and on.
Then there are multiple drinks I don’t like. I don’t drink beer at all, but I’ll drink liquor, however, I won’t drink tequila bourbon scotch etc. I only like spiced rum, vodka and some various other spirits.
That being said I’ll eat just about any kind of egg you put in front of me 🤷🏽… Except for pickled eggs obviously 😂
I enjoy eggs made by myself fried, but I find McDonald’s eggs to be digusting, like I ordered a breakfast wrap and I throw them away.
Once I had a McMuffin and the egg was blue and greenish, that was nasty.
I got banned for saying this
I dont like eggs either. I get the same responses.
I need them cooked in a particular way. Hard fried, hard scrambled or devilled. They can’t be runny or liquidy. Fried egg sandwich on toast with mayo is chef’s kiss
I agree. Eggs are gross. I cook eggs for my husband every morning and I will never eat an egg. Disgusting.
I agree. The taste and smell are instant give aways to me. What they actually are is gross too.
Yeah food is a highly personal thing. I love eggs but only when I make them
I’m not a big fan either.
I hate eggs on its own as well, what even are eggs? Are they meat, what are they?
I can understand this. It’s very easy to get the “egg ick” from a slightly off omelette or get a bad, flavourless batch of eggs, not to mention the smell is off-putting.
However, when they’re done right and to your personal liking, they are perfect
Agreed, not a fan. However, I can tolerate scrambled dry, and I enjoy the occasional omelette. This is one of those UO where I’m conflicted.
I love eggs!
But not when I was a kid!!
You’re probably intolerant or have a sensitivity. Sometimes when I eat them I become so aware I’m eating them I have to put them down and not touch them for a few weeks lol.
“My brother in christ I have had eggs cooked by at least five different people in all sorts of ways. I refuse to believe that none of these people were capable of cooking a decent egg, Im quite sure I just don’t like them” LOL
I agree, but won’t even touch the sandwiches/burritos
Rule 6 chucklenuts
These “food is bad” posts are fucking stupid
This isn’t unpopular, it’s a huge thing that people don’t like eggs…
YOU GET IT. I am exactly like you, I hate egg to the max but only cooked egg as I call it. Basically if it isn’t baked into something that makes it taste less eggy/ boiled in some way i genuinely will throw it up. It’s unpopular for some reason but I just wanted to say I support you
An omlette filled with cut up cooked chicken breast is one of the most disturbing food items.
But so many people would order this very thing when I was a brunch omlette station cook.
I called it the family reunion omlette.
I also think eggs are disgustung
[deleted]
Agreed. They’re terrible. I wish I liked them because everyone else eats them but they’re so gross.
I love eggs but I am amused by people telling you that they could change your mind if only you had them correctly prepared.
I have a friend who can’t eat eggs salty for the reasons you gave. She dusts them with cinnamon and sugar, which I can’t begin to eat. So yeah, there are people like you out there. But I’ll give this an upvote for being unpopular. I love eggs. Super neutral food to me.
Cooked egg, meh. Almost every other way of serving egg, yeh
I’m 100% with you. Eggs are gross.
As an ingredient, totally fine in baking etc., but nasty in other ways.
Yeah they’re nasty
Have you tried other species’ eggs? I swear, chicken eggs are probably the worst tasting ones. Quail eggs slap, but I do like mechanically cooked (with a specialized cooker) chicken eggs. I also like tea eggs (yes, they are just seasoned chicken eggs), but that might just be the seasoning.
Heck, even fish eggs and underdeveloped crab eggs taste better than chicken eggs.
I like them scrambled, either just scrambled, or as an omelette, but eggs as eggs, yeah, gross. Hard pass for me.
I don’t like eggs fried, scrambled, or in an omelette. They taste bad to me. But I love deviled eggs and quiche. Totally different taste.
As person who also does not like eggs I respect this take. Although I think part of it is that I got a bad case of food poisoning from a breakfast sandwich in high school and even now in my 30s I can’t stomach more then a few bites of eggs before it becomes repulsive to me.
The only eggs I can eat without vomiting are hard boiled for me. It changes the texture (my real issue) and the smell enough that it doesn’t make me gag. But, I totally get you. Can’t eat eggs or egg heavy items.
Try a jar of pickled eggs. That’s the elite experience.
It’s just a taste. Some like it, some don’t.
I’m with you. I despise eggs.
I found someone like me! I knew I wasn’t alone lol
I’m with you. I’ll eat things made with eggs or even fried rice with the bits of egg in it are tolerable but just an egg? Nah it’ll make me gag. Same with refried beans
Great stories
Literally thank you. People act like I hurt them personally when I say I hate eggs.
I like the runny yolk to dip the toast in. I wrote this to gross you out
I HATED eggs when I was young. My parents once tried to get me to eat one and I downright puked it up. Even worse was when they would make Quiche. Easily the grossest food I had to eat as a kid. Anyone who likes Quiche is a maniac or has no taste in what’s good. It’s fkin disgusting.
Now I don’t mind them but only cooked in specific ways. For me I like to cook bacon in olive oil first, then use the grease leftover to cook eggs in. Makes them taste much better, but I like them to be a bit over cooked. No soft fluffy texture for me. The way chefs typically cook them is gross to me.
But the WORST, and I still hate them and will always, is hard boiled eggs. That is the shit you are talking about, that just smells like farts or straight up 💩. Disgusting, I have no idea how anyone eats those. And if you start eating hard boiled eggs on the reg, congrats you are officially an old person.
I thought I hated eggs, until a friend of mine made scrambled eggs when we were on vacation together.
Turns out, with copious amounts of salt and chili powder they are actually edible.
I still won’t eat any other form of egg, though. Not hard boiled, not fried, not deviled.
I get it, I used to dislike egg the same way.
Kinda battled myself and now I enjoy them, but I do not recommend fighting yourself for no real reason.
And yeah, there may be a near infinite way to make em, but it’s still the base ingredient which sucks.
Unpopular opinion, but I’m with you, especially about the texture
Unpopular opinion. Take my upvote!
The smell of the pan after cooking eggs in it is also one of the most horrific scents on the planet. It’s like wet dog and sulfur had a baby. I have to wash the egg pan with my shirt pulled up over my nose for protection.
I also despise eggs but will cook them for others when requested, which is the only reason I’m left with a dirty egg pan to wash
My foster mum force fed me eggs age 1–6 … now I think they’re poisonous.
So I used to be the same way.
More specifically I used to like eggs, then slowly started disliking them, then slowly started liking them again.
Perhaps you’ve heard this one as well before in the past, but there is 1 particular thing that has had me get over some of the dislikes I have had for food: hunger.
It’s not the “I starved myself” type of hunger.
More specifically it is the “satiety rating” of a type of food.
It used to be that I would generally leave breakfast dissatisfied. That of course varied depending on how much and what exactly I ate. But on average I would leave it dissatisfied and then later on start snacking.
Eggs changed that for me. Just 2 eggs massivy increased satisfaction. It actually felt like I was eating properly and I had no weird discomfort from my stomach.
It’s also why I started liking cheese, and with cheese it “clicked” way more noticeable for me.
I was really hungry one day for lunch, but the general stuff available to me were sweet spreads and (sweet) cereal. Both of which I couldn’t stomach the idea of.
I wanted something high in protein and fat and low in carbs, but I didn’t want to be cooking stuff. I just wanted a sandwich. And then it hit me. Cheese is perfect for the job. Before that moment I only ate cheese if it was melted on other stuff, like pizza.
But that sandwich was satisfying af to eat. Especially knowing that I made a conscious decision to maximize satiety. So it felt great afterwards to not be bothered by hunger.
This won’t work if you consider yourself to have solid (savoury I guess?) options instead of eggs.
But it worked for me multiple times by now where I hust look at the food with its satiety rating as an additional quality to taste, calories, and volume.
Good. More for me then.
You know I used to be this exact way until really recently and would only tolerate my mums scrambled eggs and then my tastebuds just randomly changed and now I mostly love eggs. Still get grossed out by runny eggs though
I have to eat them every once in a while. If I eat them too much, I won’t like them. They kinda gross me out lol
I hate when my eggs start tasting too much like eggs
That’s when I have to dip out
I also think this is a pretty common opinion among people
Upvote. I would miss eggs, seafood, and cheese more than regular meat if I ever went vegan.
This is a nice unpopular opinion. You don’t have to like eggs and that’s okay. It’s kinda weird to tell someone to try more things because “hating eggs is like hating rice”. It’s not like you’re missing out on something life changing
I’m with ya. I don’t like them, no matter how they’re cooked.
Yesssss
Finally
I agree
I am the same way. Unless it’s in a breakfast burrito, or mixed in with something equally strong flavored I can’t eat them.
Also making breakfast burritos with chorizo, bacon, ham, sausage, or any combination of them at home is really easy. Just add ~2-3 cups of potatoes O’Brien, about 6-8 eggs, and ~1 cup of green chile sauce per pound of meat and you won’t even taste the eggs, they’re just there for the extra protein and stuff.
Ok, seriously I believe you.
BUT
If you like breakfast burritos, etc, then try cilaquiles!
Like, tortilla chips cooked in a skillet til they are softer, eggs, maybe chorizo or shredded chicken, salsa or veggies, and cheese?
chef’s kiss
Preach brother.
Agreed, I hate eggs.
Honestly… agree a bit. I’ll eat eggs but as time goes on I’m realizing I’ve gaslit myself into thinking I actually like eggs. They aren’t disgusting, they just aren’t good. I eat them because they’re cheap and quick, and yeah, healthy.
I agree with OP. I’ll eat things made from eggs like cake, but if there’s noticeable egg, I don’t want it.
I’m literally eating 3 scrambled right now. My all-time favorite thing to make.
Its an unpopular opinion for a reason, womp womp. wish you could understand the beauty of eggs🥺( active egg eater of over 20 years)
There might still be truth in the statement that you haven’t had them made right. I also find hardboiled eggs and scrambled eggs revolting, but a good well seasoned omelette with cheeses, onion, tomatoes and peppers? Delicious.
I have egg enjoyment cycles. I will like them for months anyway anyhow. Then suddenly they will be gross. Just like you describe. They are revolting on their own, and even the smell grosses me out. They need a significant amount of masking of other ingredients to be edible at all. Then suddenly they will be tasty again. I am guessing there may be a nutrient or compound my body decides it has enough of and says heck no, get them away from me!
I have learned over the years not to go overboard on my egg liking cycle highs so I can prolong them.
I agree with you!!!!
Honestly I felt the same way for a while, eggs can be nasty if they’re done wrong, and if you got served shitty eggs a few times at the right age it could really mess you up about them.
Hard boiled eggs are good but sometimes they smell funny and their texture is weird if you’re not down with it.
Fried eggs are good too but if you cook them too little the yolk can turn into a runny nightmare that gets all over you and everything else on the plate, and if they’re cooked too long you can end up with weird crisped bits on the edges which can be unpleasant.
Scrambled eggs are best when warm, but again like hard boiled eggs the texture can be weird. I feel like scrambling is maybe your best bet if you want to try and wean yourself into eggs because there are a lot of ways to make them.
You can start by cooking them the way purists will tell you is an abomination – mix them up with some milk and cook them on the pan until they get kind of dry and fluffy, and then add pepper and salt. I honestly think they taste great like that. You can then get fancy and cook them “right” where they end up softer and moister, which I guess is technically better, but I think they’re just fine the basic “bad” way.
Your opinion is definitely unpopular but I also can’t say i don’t understand it. I think they’re great but I did used to not like them for a long time, and I still acknowledge there are aspects of them that could easily be disliked.
I completely understand why anyone wouldn’t like eggs, because raw and hard-boiled are absolutely vile and disgusting. As a kid I only liked eggs scrambled and nothing else.
made and ate an omelette just for you champ
Eh, don’t sweat it. I’ll eat enough eggs for the two of us 🙂
Eggs are only good prepared 2 ways IMO. Scrambled, with tons of hot sauce, salsa, seasonings of some kind.
And for some reason despite disliking most of the ingredients. I do also like deviled eggs
Despise ‘em too. I’ve finally come around to not picking out the bigger pieces from fried rice…
Upvote. I love eggs
To quote the young lady from Rob Zombie’s Halloween “They’re fucking chicken abortions and they’re gross”
Eggs are nice until you realise that you’re eating eggs
Eggs are delicious.
Thank you! I feel the same. My mom told me even as a baby I would spit them out.
How do you feel about flan or hollandaise, u/awayplagueriddenrat ? Those are pretty different from their base ingredient.
Idk how unpopular it is, but damn eggs are amazing. I have a hard time even putting myself in the shoes of people who don’t like eggs.
I’m with you OP. If people are happy eating eggs, why not wash it down with a nice sperm shake? Not much difference when you think about it.
Perhaps you have a more acute sense of smell than most people, or can smell something we can’t? I personally can’t have yogurt because it smells disgusting.
I absolutely agree. I eat them solely for the health benefits. What makes it palatable to me is to douse it with accent seasoning and pepper. If they weren’t healthy I wouldn’t touch eggs with a ten-foot pole.
I had to load the FUCK outta my scrambled eggs to “like” them (mind you I’m 24 and started this maybe 6 months ago??) and even then I’m like cringing bc of the texture and the thought of actually tasting the egg. So I get it
Op is definitely 5.

Because I disagree
Tho I admit I used to find eggs repulsive before trying them
I used to feel this way about most eggs. But it’s because I’m quite sensitive to them.
Then I tried deviled eggs, soft boiled eggs on ramen, and eggs Benedict. I still feel a bit sick off of them, but I do love those varieties.
Mmmmm eggs
I like my animals born before I eat them
You’re gonna shit when you hear about personal preferences
I like eggs but I hate the smell, knocks me sick. It’s weird because it never used to bother me as a child but now I can’t stand it as an adult.
