ELI5: What is an itch and why does it feel sooooo good when it is scratched?

    An itch is your brain mistakenly thinking that there is a bug or dirt or something annoying you. The scratching gets rid of the thing, which is an evolutionary advantage.

    I’m not qualified in the slightest and talking out of my ass here but I think it’s just your nerves being like “there’s something on your skin and you need to get it off” and the good feeling is just a “reward” for taking care of it
