yet the acoustic version has 650m plays vs 40m for the hit.
I see this often that the mainstream hit is buried under a lesser known version. What’s happening for this to be the case?

Not sure about this, but I suspect that Spotify substitutes less-expensive-to-stream tracks when people try to get it to play a song title.
Voice recognition plays the wrong versions of songs (or just completely the wrong thing) for me pretty consistently, it’s a giant pain when I’m driving!
