Employee fired for stealing im named as defendant in civil suit

I was managing a popular Mexican restaurant about 2 years ago and had one of my manager get fired for stealing.

I had no hand in this and everything was done by the companies loss prevention team and the termination was handled entirely by them.
I have now been summoned for the civil suit and named as a defendant even tho I had no hand in getting her fired or the investigation proceeding her firing.

What should my next steps be? I no longer work for the company. Should I contact their hr team about this? Get a external lawyer. I dont really have money to pay for one

Would I have any case for a counter suit potentially if this is a drawn out?

NAL – get your own lawyer. As for the counter suit, unsure. This is what your own lawyer would be able to advise on. If not able to counter sue, maybe sue the person or the restaurant for your losses in defending against the suit by pulling you into the suit. Again, NAL so not sure if that’s possible.

NAL. First things first, sit down with a lawyer and discuss your situation.
