3 years ago, me and my bf at the time went to look at a car. I was not approved and he was. He fully signed everything under his name and we agreed I will send him money for it. Less than a year later he cheated and broke up with me. I continued paying him but I came at a crossroads because I needed a new job and the other one was causing me issues. New job didn’t pay much and I wasn’t able to afford the car. I tried going to dealerships to trade it in but got denied as the banks didn’t see the lien in my name and it being too high. That racked up negatives on my credit report due to constant checks. Private sale wasn’t working as the car is expensive. I was 18 and dumb to agree to let him buy it and I pay him for it. I took a loan out to repay him the missed payments. Due to family issues I had to move out and couldn’t afford the car. He kept pushing me to sell it but i literally could not. I cannot keep up with the payments as I do not have enough money. He is now wanting to take legal action for the missed payments. He doesn’t want to take the car back and get rid of it himself. I’m completely tied to the car even though my name is nowhere on the papers. What do I do

high integrity: get a better paying job.
no integrity: he owns it. You can’t sell what isn’t yours. Drive the car to his house. Hand him the keys. Have a friend video that he received them from you. You are probably done because “my name is nowhere on the papers.” As long as you didn’t write anything like a contract or email or text promising to pay him back.
good integrity: drop off the car for him to sell. Point out you don’t hold the title and he needs to sell it. Apologize. Pay him back the difference on an agreed schedule. And get a better job so you can do it.
In the future, don’t quit a job til you have another one that fully pays your bills. Critical life lesson.
