First things first, I’m not going to bring up how little the game actually works and am just going to keep it to the story and world of the game.
When I say Fallout New Vegas isn’t a good fallout game I mean it’s not a good portrayal of the Fallout franchise. Fallout at its core is a scifi apocalypse with glimpses of a past dystopia with a lot of high concept or “wacky” ideas so the fact that NV gets called the best Fallout game for being “realistic” bothers me, especially since the original game was based on City of Lost Children.
I feel like it doesn’t have any of those insane ideas that the franchise is known for and is boring with how grounded it is, like there is the fact House wants to go to space which was the original plan for fallout but that is the only thing of interest going for it and its not even that high concept.
I like the idea of Fallout with realism mixed in which is why I liked the Fallout show and like how some of the NV characters are written, but I think the factions and overall world NV creates to be lackluster for the most part atleast for fallout.

Out of interest, which would you say is the best Fallout game?
It’s been a hot min since I played NV, but I remember there being a lot of wacky things, the DLC’s alone are wacky, like the Old World Blues, with it’s strange gun that has the brain of a dog, or talking toaster and other talking objects, or the strange scientists in robots, fighting another scientists in a robot, that acts like they are some super villain, or how you have to talk to your brain to get it back.
Also in the normal game there are some strange things, how a group of people are fascinated with Elvis, or the talking cowboy robot that you keep meeting, yes man, and more.
This is just from what I remember, plenty of things I don’t remember that clearly.
I don’t see how NV is less wacky then eg Fallout 3 or Fallout 4, can’t speak about the previous games, as I haven’t played them.
this is a very interesting take & I am glad I read past the title
well done OP
It wasn’t the best Fallout game, I’ll give you that. Fallout New Vegas got me through some hard times though. I guess I’m a bit biased.
The game starts with you being shot in the head and being saved by a robot cowboy on wheels. Tf you mean it’s not wacky.
The Game isn’t wacky?
In the beginning of the game you’re shot in head and get saved by a cowboy robot.
The NCR is kinda boring, but they hired mr. Fantastic to get his Solar Plant working because he said he had “theoretical” degree in physics.
Caesar’s legion is wacky. They use footbal gear for armor and helmets.
There’s an entire faction based on worshipping Elvis.
You send Ghouls into space in toy rockets because their leader had a vision of “The Great Beyond”
You can talk to your own brain in once of the DLC’s.
And so many more things.
“I feel like it doesnt have any of the insane ideas the franchise is known for”
My brother in christ, there is a building with religious ghouls in it who want to go to space because it will “bring them salvation”.
