Falsely Accused and Afraid

So I was very dumb. I made up a fake job that’s not quite legal to a few friends. I said that I advertise my services on the dark web and such, offering to track down people for money. I also said I’m good with coding and had access to power grids and all that. Just to be clear, I do NOT do any of these things nor do I have such skills. I also told one of those friends I would like to hurt my ex. No plan, no intent, and I specifically stated both of those things twice. Some other friends of the same age that I told this to told the police this and now I’m in legal trouble. BUT they’re accusing me of threatening to take down the power grid and s**t my ex’s throat. I NEVER threatened or said I would do either of those things. The police are involved, it’s apparently 4 people saying they witnessed me saying these things (even though it was never 4 period). I’m being charged with a class D Felony. Do I need a lawyer? My family will be put into debt if we get a lawyer. What chance do I have? Thank you for reading.
