Fans of the new Superman have somehow managed to become even more annoying than Snyderverse fans.

r/

I saw Superman in theatres with some friends and (thankfully) we all agreed it wasn’t our cup of tea. 2.5*, if you’re curious.

I had no issue with the love it was getting everywhere online, but for the life of me I couldn’t understand why everyone had a problem with people who didn’t love it. Jeremy Jahns got hate, Karsten Runqvist got hate, and now that it’s on digital, they’re in every single comment section spamming the same vitriol.

And before the “that’s how all fans are” comments arrive, don’t give me that shit. Marvel fans are also annoying a lot of the time, but I’ve never seen them argue so vehemently against the “defamation” of their little comic book movies.

At least Snyderverse fans had reasons for being annoying little bitches: they considered something was taken away from them, and they were in the minority with the love they had for the movies. But if there’s one thing I hate is when people who are in the majority feel slighted by the others.

You are way too invested in something you don’t care about

I feel like comic book fans pride themselves on being insufferable and making people hate them and comics in general.

I’m not sure if what you’re saying is true, but I’ll validate your experience. Superman is a bubble film, it’s a safe film, it’s preaching to the choir, the height of the positive critique of the film is “superman saved a squirrel” or “Superman is good and not a downer.” I’m not the biggest Nolan fan, but are the special effects in Superman similar in terms of technical value with Inception or Interstellar? Or a James Cameron film? No. Again, the height of the positive feedback is the status quo, it’s what was “lacking” in the Snyder films. What I mean by all of this is that James Gunn is an MCU darling, and Disney uses the minimal viable feedback model of filmmaking, and James Gunn smuggled that process into the DCU. You don’t need to read Iger’s book on why he tried to dismantle the research groups at Disney (and failed) to know a MVP film from a traditional film. To keep it short, it’s a fan feedback model that ensures ROI but is extremely risk averse. They won’t take cinematic or even Narrative challenges, that’s why most of the positive feedback is status quo type of feedback, it has nothing to do with innovation or a thematically engrossing experience.

I gave it 2 stars but judging it through the MVP lens it’s damn there a masterpiece for its target audience.

I didn’t even know who Jeremy jahns was but it took me 5 minutes of googling to find out that he has defended Matt Walsh’s racist movie. Maybe he’s not getting hate only because of not liking Superman, maybe people were already predisposed against him because he had shit takes in the past
