FBI Task Force – What to expect?

r/

I’ve been a parole officer for the last five years. My department is starting an FBI task force. This would be a full time TFO. Today, I did the meet & greet. Next steps is the background check. I’m curious if anyone knows what to expect for something like this (timeline, tests, qualifications, etc). Thanks!

It just depends on the agency and the function. You may get to attend the FBI national academy.

In my neck of the woods, we do most of the heavy lifting so being on a federal task force really doesn’t mean that much. It’s more of a hassle than anything. A way for them to have you work the local cases and get credit for the work.

On the plus side, it’s pretty well known that criminals will get more time through the federal court system than they will on the state level so there’s that.

Ours are super busy. It’s a coveted spot for us. Local PD going to the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force that is.

What kind of task force is it?

I went from patrol to a TFO on a regional computer crimes task force, and it was (no exaggeration) the best job in all of law enforcement.

I’d still be there but they wanted to put me back in patrol and now I’m in the private sector.
