Female Porn Addiction Exists , So Why Is It Invisible?

r/

There’s a noticeable lack of discussion and resources around porn addiction in women. Most articles, recovery programs, and online conversations are centered around men, as if they’re the only ones who struggle with it.

While men may be statistically more likely to consume porn, women are affected too – and for those who do struggle, it can impact motivation, mental health, and overall well-being in similar ways. Hormonal differences aside, women also produce testosterone although in smaller amounts than in men, but the psychological effects of addiction don’t discriminate by gender.

So why is female porn addiction so overlooked? Why aren’t there more resources or support systems aimed at helping women who deal with this? It’s clearly not an exclusively male issue.

(Because it’s not even an accepted disorder and the “recovery programs” are mostly religious weirdo programs.)

If you want to quit and are having a hard time, see a sex therapist.

“Porn addiction” is a fake diagnosis, usually promoted by conservative religious groups, that propagates unnecessary shame and judgment. If someone of any gender is finding themselves troubled by feeling addicted to anything, I’d suggest that they seek therapy to help with that, but there’s no need to buy into puritanical arguments as part of that process.

Because it’s different. I actually think smut is our porn. The amount of adulting I avoid so I can read smut is a lot. But it’s disguised as rEaDiNg so it’s ’ok’

This is a good post OP. I’m sorry it’s not getting upvoted. Every time the topic of porn is raised on this sub it’s usually by a woman upset by her partner’s consumption of smut. There isn’t any real nuanced discussion about it, which is surprising to me on a sub for older women.

    r/pornfreewomen debates it.

First reason is that women’s consumption of porn is lower than men’s. Second reason is that men’s top reason to tackle their addiction is their dicks not working,. Since men’s pleasure is more centered and visible in traditional sex, their lack of erections or orgasm becomes a problem they feel like they need to solve quickly. Meanwhile some women go decades without having an orgasm, fake orgasms or simply don’t expect their partners to make them orgasm. Then there’s the stigma about being a woman and getting caught up in the frankly cringe or plain unethical stuff that men get addicted to.

These things together make for lower addiction rates and lower attempts to recover. That is, many women don’t realize they have an issue or don’t want to face it.

There’s companies like covenant eyes who suppose whomever needs porn help. There’s other companies but, they’re companies. Who’s the biggest draw to convert on, men or women?

Because effects on women’s sex lives isn’t seen as important as men’s. Like always.

Still waiting for a female version of Viagra. You’d think men would care given it would increase women’s desire for sex, but alas.
