Entering radio contests and random sweepstakes usually results in winning a free sandwich or a cheap promotional t-shirt. Very few people actually score the massive grand prizes. But one dedicated guy on Reddit finally hit the jackpot after years of submitting entry forms. Unfortunately, his incredible win quickly morphed into a massive headache thanks to a deeply entitled spouse.
This thirty nine year old man treats entering raffles and contests as a serious hobby. He has scored concert tickets and gift cards in the past, but last month he finally secured a white whale. He won an all expenses paid five night trip for four people to Florida. Thrilled with his incredible luck, he ran to share the amazing news with his thirty eight year old wife.
The initial excitement barely lasted five minutes before the wife completely took over the itinerary. Before the winner could even utter a single suggestion about his own prize, she mapped out an entire family vacation. She excitedly announced that they were going to bring her eleven year old daughter and spend the week hitting up Disney World and Sea World.
But her planning did not stop there. Since the prize covered four people, the wife decided the fourth ticket should automatically go to her own mother. Her justification was that her mom could act as a free babysitter while they enjoyed some alone time. She basically assigned away every single seat on the plane without asking the guy who actually won the contest.
The funniest detail of this entire hijacking attempt is geography. The husband added a hilarious note at the end of his post clarifying that the free trip is to Fort Myers, not Orlando. Fort Myers is a quiet beach town located hours away from the giant theme parks. The wife was daydreaming about Mickey Mouse while her husband held tickets to the retirement capital of the state.
The husband finally managed to pause her manic planning session and express his own desires. He gently explained that he was actually envisioning a relaxing adults only getaway. He wanted to invite another married couple to fill the remaining two spots. Winning a luxury vacation is rare, and wanting to sip cocktails on a beach with friends instead of wrangling an eleven year old at a crowded tourist trap is a completely valid choice.
Naturally, the wife hated his idea. She hit him with a heavy guilt trip, claiming she would feel terrible taking a free trip and leaving her daughter behind. She also argued that her mom had never been to Florida and this was the perfect free opportunity to get her there. Recognizing they were at a stubborn stalemate, the couple agreed to take a breather and absolutely not tell anyone else about the prize until they reached a compromise.
That logical agreement lasted less than twenty four hours. The wife conveniently let the secret slip to her daughter. The kid obviously completely lost her mind with excitement and started researching all the fun things she wanted to do. When the husband confronted his wife about the leak, she claimed it was a total accident. Nobody buys that for a single second. She intentionally weaponized her child’s joy to force his hand.
The husband was furious. He correctly pointed out that she broke their agreement and dragged a child into an adult argument just to manipulate the outcome. The wife immediately doubled down, calling him selfish and cruel. She insisted that leaving the stepdaughter behind now would be devastating, conveniently ignoring the fact that she was the one who created the devastating situation in the first place.
Having zero patience left for the emotional blackmail, the husband dropped a legendary ultimatum. He told his wife that her daughter was only excited because she blabbed. He then generously offered her the entire trip. He told her to take the kid, take her mother, and go find a fourth person to join them, because he would rather stay home alone than be forced on a vacation where his opinions do not matter.

If she wants to play tour guide in Fort Myers, she can pay for all the food, transport, and overpriced theme park tickets herself. Now she thinks he is being a massive jerk for ruining her family fantasy.

His wife acted incredibly entitled to a prize she did not win and then used a child as a human shield when she did not get her way.
