I don’t know, a crying baby may take the cake.

  2. oboshoe Avatar

    I dunno.

Other people speakerphone conversations, or their terrible music is pretty high on the list.

  3. SubtleToot Avatar

Being woken up by something other than your alarm, before your alarm is set to go off, is far more annoying.

  4. AfternoonCrafty69420 Avatar

Nah. I wake up at 6:30 sharp every morning naturally

It’s probably my little brother whining or people shouting

  5. Verylazyperson Avatar

Not me! I have a sleeping disorder!

JK I just wake up before my alarm goes off every day.

  6. Left_Lengthiness_433 Avatar

This would be as it should be, if it were true.

My wakeup alarm ain’t got shit on the sheer dread of my work phone ringtone when I’m on call

  8. Least_Buyer7511 Avatar

idk. the sound of my math teacher at 6 in the damn morning seems pretty high on the list

  9. AaronWilde Avatar

I used to hate hearing my annoying alarms, and then one day, I noticed in my Samsung phone that there were very pleasant soft songs that you can set to start off very quiet while slowing increasing volume. It changed everything! It is far from annoying.

Hey Harry, wanna hear the most annoying sound in the world?

  11. defying__gravitty Avatar

Hearing people eating is the worst sound on earth.

  12. DeeRexBox Avatar

For me, the most annoying sound is my wife’s wakeup alarm at 5am.

  13. SeriouslySlyGuy Avatar

The average person doesn’t have to deal with my mother in law

  14. Druterium Avatar

My alarm audio is “Turbo Killer” by Carpenter Brut, so that’s a no for me.

That said, I was just talking to someone the other day about how damn annoying the “phone vibration buzz” sound is. I find that infinitely more annoying than any ringtone.

  15. Roman_____Holiday Avatar

I use soft music or sounds and ramping alarm volume on my phone and haven’t been startled awake in years.

  16. Malnurtured_Snay Avatar

Kid in the middle of the night when you finally got comfortable beats my alarm every time.

  18. TheMuffler42069 Avatar

It’s actually quite pleasant. The soft wake up alarm on the iPhone, I like to wake up soft.

  19. GrimSpirit42 Avatar

My wife a 70’s era red-letter alarm clock that can wake the dead. It does not bother me. Usually does not even wake me up.

But, ANY attempt of an audible alarm for me, no matter how soft and gentle, will scare the shit out of my wife. So, I wear a fitbit on me off wrist that vibrates to wake me up.

  20. jms945 Avatar

People chewing, especially with their mouths open will get me pretty close to murderous rage.

  21. Spideryote Avatar

I can snooze my alarm for 5 minutes of silence

Screaming kids aren’t as accommodating, and are 3x as annoying

  22. Dry_Yogurtcloset1962 Avatar

The teams call sound when I’m trying to actually get shit done at work

  23. travelinmatt76 Avatar

Back in the 90s and early 2000s I set my TV to turn on the Weather channel to wake me up in the morning. My favorite song on the “Local on the 8s” segment was Good Ole Days by Trammell Starks. I use that as my alarm sound so I get a nice little hit of nostalgia every morning.

To be fair, I make it annoying intentionally otherwise I’d sleep through it.

  25. rainbowglittergoblin Avatar

If your alarm is the sound of a toddler waking up in the middle of the night screaming their head off, signaling that regardless of the hour, it is now Awake O’Clock, and all within earshot are now required to also suffer the Indignity of Wakefulness, then yes.

    Ugh.

  26. trizadakoh Avatar

Mines is the ring ring from squid games so more fear than annoyance

We’re approaching a demographic era when the “average person” is retired.

    What’s a “wakeup alarm sound”?

  28. Pfthrowaway12123453 Avatar

Pro tip that has changed my life – get a smart watch. Even if you don’t use for anything else, it’s worth its weight in gold to be gently awoken by a soft vibration on your wrist. Sound alarms have always startled me awake and I bet its taken years off my heart because of it, I got a smart watch for mother’s day last year and it is so damn pleasant.

For real, it’s like the universe decided to test our patience. One minute you’re all set, and the next, it’s like you’ve got a mountain of socks to fold. Why is folding socks the worst task on the planet?

  32. 1234abcdcba4321 Avatar

I find it annoying enough that most of the time I wake up to turn my alarm off before it goes off.

  33. DeathofRats42 Avatar

If you want your alarm sound to seem soothing by comparison, get a parrot.

  34. Vrudr Avatar

Anything to do with babies and people below 14 years old is waaaaay worse than an alarm, even tho I kicked my fan out of place when I woke up today, but that’s a rare thing (I sleep on the floor and the fan is incredibly close to me and tilted down by shoes).

  35. GaidinBDJ Avatar

I have it on good authority that the most annoying sound is, in fact:

    ennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

  36. GenericBatmanVillain Avatar

I havent needed an alarm for 20 years and I don’t miss it at all. I just wake early naturally because I go to bed early.

  37. scrangos Avatar

Never make a song you like your alarm sound, you will grow to hate it

  38. SlapMySloth1 Avatar

For me it’s the blue jay screaming and the woodpecker hammering away at a tree outside my window about 20 minutes before my alarm goes off.

  39. Agus_ZPL Avatar

Alarm clocks might be used as cute props in films when the star of the movie wakes up. But IRL, I agree that it can be irritating because it jolts you out of sleep and sometimes even good dreams. Plus, it’s a sign that it’s time to stop resting and time to start working. It may be useful but it’s still annoying LOL.

  40. granitegumball Avatar

That apple classic alarm is the bane of my existence

  41. Deekers Avatar

I can think of 100 sounds more annoying. A nickleback song, a fork scratching a plate repeatedly, the ex wife, a crying baby that’s not my own…..

  42. hellure Avatar

Over the last 15 years mine has been:

    Bitter Sweet Symphony

    Love Song

    &

    WTF!

Note: I have other songs set to remind me to leave the house, take lunch breaks, and to leave work.

I also have my alarms start at 0 volume, and increase to a still low volume over 1min.

  43. Gloomy_Cranberry575 Avatar

I think is your partners wake up alarm, set an hour before yours.

  44. d00med_user Avatar

The early riser alarm tone on my iPhone, with my watch pulsing to my heart beat is usually quite pleasant for me. It’s when I see everything on my Lock Screen that jolts me awake when I go to turn the alarm off

  45. danger_dave32 Avatar

Loud car exhaust, especially the one drives past my house at 5:30pm every day.

Dogs that bark nonstop, left outside by their inconsiderate owners.

My neighbours kids rollerskating in the house for 5 hours solid.

Alarm clock not even close mate.

  46. Terrik1337 Avatar

My alarm clock is my giant orange cat standing on my chest and screaming in my face.

  47. Cheesetoast9 Avatar

Nope, my coworker whistling randomly is far worse.

  48. Words_by_BeaG Avatar

If THAT is the most annoying thing for you to hear, you have a wonderful life.

  49. Both-Alternative3177 Avatar

Sometimes I set up a second alarm one hour before my actual alarm, so that I can wake up, take a look at the clock, and get a wave of satisfaction knowing I can jump right back to bed. You’d wake up much more pleasantly this way.

There is probably some scientific grounding to this about resetting your sleep stage too. Highly recommend.

  50. Valuable_Jelly_4271 Avatar

I raise you my wife’s alarm on those mornings where she has set it slightly early without warning. But it doesn’t wake her so she doesn’t shut the damned thing off.

  51. Wise_Ad_1101 Avatar

The dog barking because the kids come home late while I have to get up early annoys me way more than my alarm.

  52. melinafitnexxx Avatar

It’s the ultimate vibe killer—like the universe’s way of saying, “Nope, you’re not living in dreamland anymore.”

  53. Mncdk Avatar

This is my morning alarm tune, and it is fucking delightful.

My ring tone is this one and it’s very soothing. It honestly made picking up the phone much more relaxing for me, and that’s normally an anxiety-riddled exercise.

  54. TheAlbinoAmigo Avatar

Some of you don’t have an overbearing, nasally-voiced superior at work who can talk for 25 minutes straight without saying anything of value – and it shows.

  55. Kaludaris Avatar

I learned a long time ago to not use songs you like for alarms. I used to wake up to Kashmir – Led Zeppelin every morning, i can still barely listen to it without a weird anxiety. It was even my ringtone at the same time so it really turned me off from taking phone calls vs just getting a ding for a text.

  56. TwinObilisk Avatar

I once made the mistake of setting one of my favorite songs as my wakeup alarm sound in the hopes of making my mornings less unbearable.

Unfortunately, all that happened is I now hate the song. =(

  57. dangerfielder Avatar

Got rid of mine years ago. Sunrise alarms are superior in every respect.

  58. MisterBicorniclopse Avatar

I chose some good music from games for my alarms and I love it

  59. calguy1955 Avatar

The seatbelt alert bell drives me crazy. I refuse to start the engine until everyone is buckled in.

  60. Privvy_Gaming Avatar

A coworker in my office has a midday alarm that is the same as my wakeup alarm. It always raises my heart rate

  61. HighFlowDiesel Avatar

I am a paramedic and for me, it’s the sound of tones dropping, especially in the middle of the night when I’ve just gotten back in bed and comfortable.

Sometimes when I’m at home and in my own bed, I’ll bolt upright and start reaching down for my boots before it processes that I’m off duty.

  62. ufc205nyc Avatar

I used to have an alarm clock at my desk which was set to go off when it was time for me to go do the mail. The woman behind me always said to me time to take your heart medicine (Because it always scared her I guess.)

  63. xan926 Avatar

OP isn’t in corporate and doesn’t know the default Teams ring.

  64. Wise-Desk8288 Avatar

For me, it’s my roommate’s alarm tone. There isn’t anything annoying other than that

  65. YorkshireRiffer Avatar

And that’s why I’ve got a multiple genre playlist with over 24 hours of music set to shuffle on my alarm.

  66. Scared_Ad2563 Avatar

Oh hell no. I only use sounds I like as alarms to wake up to. I’d listen to my alarm on repeat over some little kid let loose with a recorder. Any. Day.

  67. AstrologicalOne Avatar

Yup. You sleep good, dream good, but then that damn alarm goes off.

OR you don’t sleep good at all and you have shit to do in the morning and that alarm goes off.

  68. crosszilla Avatar

I used to set songs as my alarm and would grow to absolutely despise the song. Switched back to annoying tones after that.

  69. Terpomo11 Avatar

That’s why you change what it’s set to regularly.

  70. megbotstyle Avatar

it is 100% the noise of my kids yelling “MOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!)

  71. Better_Sherbert8298 Avatar

My alarm is the sound of birds chirping. I have it followed 10 minutes later by my favorite song. It’s quite pleasant. Highly recommend. You should not start every single day with an obnoxious noise you hate.

The most annoying thing I hear is a dog that stays outside and never stops barking.

  72. donotpassgo2514 Avatar

If it isn’t the most annoying, it certainly should be top ten.

  73. cros5bones Avatar

The dog whining because he’s in a cone of shame and can’t lick his arse 24 hrs a day is up there

  74. chillyHill Avatar

Nope, my husband chewing is much more annoying.

  75. throwaway12678910qhd Avatar

How about waking up to a call from your boss asking you work questions on your week off

That’s how I spent my off day sadly

  76. slimdrum Avatar

I’ve ruined many a song by using them as my alarm, the anxiety I get when I hear said songs is very real even years later lol

  77. gnatdump6 Avatar

Open mouth chewing sounds sends me through the roof.

  78. mxgxnn Avatar

Alarm? Annoying? I hit snooze like 30000 times and end up being the annoying thing

  79. Readicilous Avatar

Nah, an annoying kid whose parents don’t pay attention to. TEACH YOUR DAMNED KIDS MANNERS!! If you don’t, the world will

  80. Alternative_Rent9307 Avatar

I typically wake up say 30 minutes before my alarm and shut it off as soon as it rings and then get up, it’s just a thing I do, and still this is facts. I’ve got some pretty stout books on my end table and one of them could probably handle smashing that fucking thing to pieces.

  81. EchoRvnWave Avatar

You know it’s bad when your alarm clock sounds like it’s auditioning for a horror movie. Seriously, who thought ‘screaming goat’ was a good wake-up call?

  82. SrtaTacoMal Avatar

For an average me, it’s “MAAAMAAAA” from my 5-year-old before my alarm goes off.

  83. jase12881 Avatar

The funny thing about the alarm app is we hate it for doing what we asked it to do.

  84. MaybeNextTime_01 Avatar

Nope. Random clapping, desk slapping, pencil tapping and whistling. I teach middle school. I’ll take my alarm clock over all that random crap any day.

  85. DahliaRoseMarie Avatar

Having Tinnitus is worse, and the sounds never stop.

  86. Muncleman Avatar

Ever wake up to a tree hitting the house and knowing you need to do all the work? Now that is annoying!

  87. TheDevilsAdvokaat Avatar

It is. I keep changing mine but still after a while it becomes a hated sound.

  88. thatnugget14 Avatar

I purposely make it the most annoying so I would be forced to be awake

  89. Wet_Sasquatch_Smell Avatar

Many of us very likely just had a shared Vietnamesque flashback to the same cursed droning scream of the mass produced alarm clocks of the late 20th century

  90. ContactHonest2406 Avatar

Nah. Baby crying. One of the many reasons I don’t have or want kids. I can’t fucking stand it.

  91. Defiant_Heretic Avatar

At one point I had my alarm set to bird sounds. I had to change it, because I started hating the sound of birds. Better to set it to the radio, the randomness makes it less likely you’ll associate it with disrupting your sleep.

  92. MissMistMaid Avatar

The most annoying thing ever is hearing other people talk. Just leave me alone pls

  93. assasin1598 Avatar

A lot of people use loud or obnoxious sounds as alarm sound, ofcourse they wont like it when theyre agressively woken up.

I recommend the opposite, something slow and quiet, i myself use a Guitar riff

But it wont solve if you simply hate waking up.

  94. FoFo1300 Avatar

Idk, scratching a black board makes me wanna rip my ears off

  95. da_dragon_guy Avatar

That’s why I made my alarm jazz music.

    I’ll never hate it

  96. cosmicpoohlion Avatar

Not mine it’s the Steve Austin walk in music so I hear that glass break and I know it’s go time

  97. MoobyTheGoldenSock Avatar

Protip: Buy some smart light bulbs. Set them to fade on over 20 minutes starting 10 minutes before your alarm (they’ll be 50% brightness when your alarm goes off.) Most of the time, you’ll slowly wake up a few minutes before the alarm goes off and only rarely will get that jolt from the alarm.

  98. SpyTheRogue Avatar

That was true when I still lived in a small, quiet village.

Now I live in a noisy city with noisy neighbors, and also in a better mental state so I don’t hate waking up anymore so the alarm is alright.

  99. LurkersGoneLurk Avatar

Entitled adults and spoiled kids whining is my #1 and I couldn’t be more average.

  100. PartyLikeaPirate Avatar

If I were a marketing exec, I’d have all my commercials either start with the default iPhone ringtone or the default alarm noise. That annoying thing to hear now gets their attention

Every commercial that has these, I look at my phone then up at the tv

  101. klitchell Avatar

Recency bias, other people coughing. I just spent a week with a group of people that all got sick one after another. The sound of other people coughing was getting infuriating.

  102. miapapiatomia Avatar

My alarm is my own voice for this exact reason.

  103. ehaugw Avatar

I’d say the Teams ring tone is the worst, and the outlook notification sound is a close second

  104. TuesdayNoodle2 Avatar

My alarm is the Kill Bill whistle – doesnt really annoy me much at all.

The most annoying sound is, specifically, the first 3 seconds of Ed Sheeran’s song A Team.

No hate on the song its lovely – the first bit just drives me insane. For years when I would connect my phone to my car the first song in my library would immediately start to play – and it was always A Team. I eventually dowloaded a song labeled like “__AAAA” to be first on my library which is just 10 minutes of silence.

  105. Vintenu Avatar

I mean that is the point of an alarm is it not? To be so annoying you can’t sleep

  106. Prudent-Poetry-2718 Avatar

I used to hate it. Now I have some very soft classical solo piano version of Moonlight Sonata and it wakes me up so gently that I love it.

  107. Yesujira Avatar

I’m surprised my alarm doesn’t piss off my roommate considering I snooze it a few times each morning before rising (I account for this as part of my wakeup routine, don’t worry) and of all things, it’s the U.S. Gold Amiga Outrun intro that I use as an alarm sound (YouTube it if you don’t know what that sounds like, I promise you’ll understand straight away)

  108. BrilliantPressure161 Avatar

For me its those pictures that change when you walk by them, they have a wack texture and if you scratch them the sound they make is hell

  109. danbyer Avatar

The other day, my alarm woke me from a dream where I was going to bed. It was a terrible way to wake up.

  110. The_Southern_Sir Avatar

The noise of pets vomiting beats any alarm ever.

  111. SquinkyEXE Avatar

Life tip never set a song you love as your wake up alarm unless you want to hate it and make every time you hear it trigger mini depression

  112. Blanch3e Avatar

Or when the alarm sounds goes on and they are gone…
