So I’m a Canadian and a centrist and from my perspective Trump is doing a lot of things that desperately needed to happen, in the worst way possible.
All the cries of “he’s doing this in the worst way possible” are rebutted by the simple thought, they simply wouldn’t get done if he wasn’t doing it.
Government spending on wasteful programs needed to get slashed, immigration needed to get under control, deportations needed to happen, US needed to stop playing world police and subsidizing EUs defense.
So back to my question, if you’re so upset that Trump is doing these things in the worst way possible why didn’t Obama or Biden do it? Why didn’t Kamala run on doing some of these things? Why is the left’s answer always to just not the solve the problem or throw money at it and hope it does? And if you’re argument is “Trump isn’t really solving the problem” well he’s doing more about it than the left did/would have.
How long did you think people would just ignore issues especially the ones that increase cost of living, taxes and stagnate wages

You don’t understand how we got here.
You’re asking why didn’t the global imperialist power that is the United States has ever stopped being a globalist imperialist power?
See the answer in the question.
The joke isn’t that Trump is just doing the same things, but it’s way more stupid and brash … it’s that half of his proclamation are antithetical to the globalist imperialist power the US built itself into since Carter.
Argue what you will about the US being a force for good, and this is all a means to an end or whatever. But Trump has been given a second chance to hold the keys to the empire, and he neither understands how it works and has no interest in continuing several key functions.
I reject your premise.
> Government spending on wasteful programs needed to get slashed
Prove Trump did this.
> immigration needed to get under control
Prove it was out of control.
> US needed to stop playing world police and subsidizing EUs defense
We’re threatening to bomb Iran now. Prove we’re done doing any of that.
> if you’re so upset that Trump is doing these things in the worst way possible why didn’t Obama or Biden do it
Prove they didn’t.
You haven’t provided proof of any of your claims, so your question isn’t worth answering until you do
First of all, I don’t agree that these things needed to happen.
The government programs that have been cut weren’t wasteful. I have yet to see a cogent argument that they were. Musk, Trump, and DOGE have characterized them as wasteful and presented false narratives about what the programs were doing. But presenting such a false narrative does not make it truth.
I am not convinced that immigration is such an important issue. Economists don’t seem to think that it’s been a major problem. Noted conservative economist Milton Friedman remarked once that immigration into the country was fantastic for the country so long as that immigration was illegal, and thus the immigrants were not entitled to government services.
I am not convinced that deportations needed to happen. The people who have been deported have either been falsely accused of being gang members or have been retaliated against due to their unpopular speech.
I agree that the EU should be more independent and have its’ own military force. But, I do not think that the best way to do that is to hand Ukraine over to Russia and upend everything overnight. We should have informed our allies that, over the next 10 years, they needed to increase their military spending, as we were intending to lower ours and not provide quite as much aid.
World police…it’s a complicated thing. Our adventurism in the middle east after 9/11 was ill-conceived. We probably shouldn’t have been involved in Vietnam or Korea either. However, it is also true that American military power has protected global trade and prevented major territorial wars of aggression for 80 years. That is kind of a big deal.
Clinton did it the right way. But Obama struggled to get anything passed because the Republican house and senate made it their mission to make sure nothing he wanted passed.
Even things that were good for everyone. The other part is that there were few curbs on a president’s power because up until now, presidents were restrained by honor and decency. We just didn’t foresee that some Americans would vote in a president with a complete lack of both.
>Government spending on wasteful programs needed to get slashed
Which wasteful programs?
>deportations needed to happen
Deportations were happening.
>US needed to stop playing world police and subsidizing EUs defense.
Where were we playing “world police”? It is in the US’s best interest to prevent war from breaking out in Europe. Why should we not help defend them?
Doing things the right way means following the Constitution and respecting the limits of his power. Democrats do that, but it means that Republicans are empowered to stop them.
Trump is not pushing legislation through Congress like Biden did. He is writing executive orders that he doesn’t have the power to right instead. He even tried to remove part of the Constitution with one.
Trump’s popularity comes from convincing citizens that the US government is conspiring against and oppressing them. So when he gets charged for laws he actually broke, his followers see it as a personal attack on them
The dems aren’t trying to destabilize our society, so that option is not useful to them.
Your premise is simply wrong.
A lot of people would agree that government spending was somewhat fine, the problem was that taxes got so low they can’t cover that spending anymore.
You can cut programs or bring back taxes, not everyone agrees the first is preferable (especially in left wing circles).
Many would also agree that those government programs were not wasteful, especially USAID.
“Deportation need to happen” is something you agree on, others do not.
“The usa should stop being world police” is vague and means nothing
>So back to my question, if you’re so upset that Trump is doing these things in the worst way possible why didn’t Obama or Biden do it?
I think you assume I as liberal see the problems the same way as you do. I don’t think the EU mooched of the USA or that there was too few control of immigration in the USA. I think there is a lot of manufactured propaganda by the right and they have a lot of ways to distract from the real problems.
I give the message to all Trump voters: he is totally unfit to be a president. This was true back in 2016 and certainly is true eight years later. Thing is, you could have known this. You saw him at work. He had his dumb tariff fantasies in his first term.
Actually your post is really funny, you are asking for why Democrats would not be better republicans than Trump.
My message to you: stop blaming democrats, be a little introspective. Now Trump is ruling, criticize him and his cabinet if you dont like some policies.
Didnt know that tanking the stock market and sending gestapo to kidnap people and send them to foreign prisons without due process needed to happen. Or starting trade wars with your country.. why didnt obama think of that!
I disagree with the premise that he’s doing things that “needed to happen in the worst way.” These issues you think are a problem aren’t an issue to most people. Wasteful government spending is a problem, but it’s a joke to say you care about it when our military budget is the most bloated wasteful spending we have. How does firing staff from one of the more profitable sectors, The IRS, save us money when they bring in more that they spend? Sure, I have a ton of problems with “do nothing democrats” that need primaried against, but it’s a joke to say Trump is doing anything to “fix our country.” Trump is currently on track to destroy our country’s position in the world, destory all social safety nets keeping people safe and out of poverty, and is currently implementing fascist policies to round up people with zero due process. Nothing about Trump is helping.
While there weren’t enough things done fast enough, the democrats under Biden did plenty to try and help everyday Americans with 100% resistance from Republicans. I think this is a silly question that tries to put blame on the democrats while hand waiving the atrocities Trump is currently committing by saying, “It’s something versus nothing” when that’s not at all what Trump is doing.
I disagree. Spending, immigration and foreign policy have been in pretty good shape until Trump started fucking them up.
This is so uselessly vague lol
What specifically needed to happen? The left did manage immigration and fight waste, they just didn’t seek the illegal due-process violations and incompetence of trump. The US isn’t subsidizing the EU and other nations already were increasing spending since 2014.
You’d learn more if you didn’t guzzle propaganda that depends on being uselessly vague.
