Found out I have a half brother.

r/

Doing a family tree and I get a message. It’s from what would be an ex step sister. Half brother is near 80 and not likely to want to communicate with me. It’s all very odd but backed up by dna. Any other dna testing surprises?

Based on a My Heritage dna I received a message from a distant (4th or 5th cousin) relative in England. I didn’t have much information of my father’s family. That one email lead me to many questions being answered. I found out that my grandfather brought his family to the town they settled in because my grandmother had a sister there. I knew my grandmother died when her three children were less than eight years old. That included a two week old infant that was adopted shortly after her death. What I didn’t know was that he was adopted by his mother’s sister.

That email (prompted by dna testing) resulted in additional exchanges that helped both of us answer questions that would have continued to be mysteries otherwise.

I discovered that I couldn’t possibly be related to my maternal Grandfather so he wasn’t really my mum’s dad. If you knew my mum you’d find that as funny as I do lol
