“Freudian slips” are more often than not just mistakes

r/

Don’t have a bunch of nuance to this, but I feel like so often when someone “slips up” and uses a name or term or just a word that they don’t mean, it’s not an actual Freudian slip, it’s just a simple misspeaking that doesn’t mean anything besides that the person accidentally said the wrong thing. Yet, it’s abundant that when someone accidentally misspeaks, and there’s probably no more to it than that, people so quickly jump to assuming it’s what they actually think or mean subconsciously. Sorry, but I don’t buy it most of the time. We’re humans. Humans make mistakes. Can those mistakes sometimes have internal truth to them? Of course they can. But more often than not, I sincerely believe it’s just a simple mistake and nothing more.

What happened? Did you call your gf ‘mum’ or something?

Yes, Freud was wrong about a lot of things. Maybe next time you’ll think twice about calling your hot female teacher “Mom”

I think you are mostly right, but context is important here. Some things are excusable or downright funny, others are less so and can be red flags
