No song since has united the entire planet like that : kids, adults, every culture, all doing the same funny horse dance. It was fun, ridiculous, and unforgettable. Today’s viral songs blow up for a week and vanish. Nothing hits like Gangnam Style did.
People say it should stay in 2012, like it only belongs to that era. I disagree. Just because it’s old or “cringe” now doesn’t mean it wasn’t (and isn’t) great. We need to bring it back.

Legend
Brother it’s been 13 years, that time is over and it is never coming back.
Although I do agree, it was a fun time, I was 9 in 2012. Easier times.
This is like asking for The Macarena to make a comeback.
maybe check out his other songs
Since no one else will say it I will speak for the collective: Fuck no.
Anthem? Yeah, no.
Harlem Shake can come back and I would welcome it with open arms. Gangnam style I would be buying earplugs immediately
It was good 5 seconds and then it became overused and overplayed like many similar songs and social phenomena.
We are the woooooorld. Or…
Do I want to be 19 again? No. Do I want it to be 2012 again? Yes.
I hated it at the time but I think you’re probably right
pass
I mean I still rickroll people
“Nothing hits like Gangnam style” except Macarena. Now that’s a global anthem.
I’m sure some tiktoker will sample it soon enough and it’ll be back. And then we’ll hate it.
I like the song, and I really am fascinated by South Korea’s cultural reach. Has any song ever come back after 15 years?
This really is an unpopular opinion
It’s like saying Despacito, or Lambada should return, or Crazy Frog….face it man, it’s gone forever.
Oopa gangnam style
No.
I mean it’s a good song. When I hear it I do enjoy it. But like a lot of songs that were once massive I don’t listen to them regularly.
It was pretty incredible considering before then I don’t think I’d even heard a KPop song before. I’m sure there were quite a lot of people who were the same. I’m sure it had an effect on people from the west listening to Korean songs.
I thought Psy said he got tired of performing it and basically didn’t want to do it anymore…the internet says i am wrong and he’s still happily performing it.
Maybe I’m a boomer when it comes to music, but something with more artistical value — like Bohemian Rhapsody — would be a nicer universal anthem. The lyrics are maybe a bit too dark, but musically… You know what I mean.
The Twist is going to make a comeback before gangnam style does.
It’s just a catchy meme song lol. It was never anything more than that
Pretty sure most people don’t like it or liked it for like a week
I think baby shark united us all in hate for a very long time.
It does show just how relatively poor even a not-too-modern hideous ear worm is these days.
Gangnam is barely memorable compared to the real old shit that was a round when I was growing up. It also has just one ‘action’. They used to want us to learn a dozen or more to perform in sync, just to show just how stupid drunken people in a crowd can be.
It doesn’t hold a candle to Agadoo – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POv-3yIPSWc – a truly runny turd of a shit song, that stuck in people’s heads for years. It spawned a run of turgid shits that were ‘audience participation’ songs, inviting the crowd to perform more & more ridiculous actions.
The entire genre was hideously bad it actually spawned another hit taking the piss out of it & other songs of the same ilk.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OiZNGYmvg8 [yes, that’s Margaret Thatcher on Keyboards & Ronald Regan on drums;)
Gangnam Style is the pinacle of when we had not so much problems in life, like on the comment section of Skrilex – ScarMonster and Nices Sprites a user said: “2010 felt like it was a giant party we never realised until it’s gone” -@Timvantory
No. It was never good.
Absolutely
As a young adult in 2012, I promise you most of us didn’t like it
Maybe I’m too old, but the song is shit and always was shit and should never have been made. I don’t know why it became the “hit” that it was.
This post reminds me of all of the posts on reddit right before the song made its massive viral impact. PSY is back at it!
It is the worst song that has ever been written, period.
If you go to South Korea you will see it never left
cringe now? it was also cringe then. that was part of the appeal and part of why it went viral online
It was the YMCA of the time, the next one will come soon!
Hows about stop looking to the past for your joy? Look around, sell the roses, taste the wine. Its all still here, with new and exciting experiences to discover. Gangnam Style can live on in your car, in your shower, in your head. But to re-release it today just because? Nah fam.
Just film a crazy tiktok about it. Some kids will pick it up again.
I learned the song phonetically and performed it as the closing act of a new years show for about 300 people at a supper theatre back in the day
Op…..Op…..Op…..Op….
I was in 2nd year of university if I am remembering right. It was blasting in the student union, cars, between class rooms. Everywhere, all the time. Please… No more… O-oppa…
it was very good but you can’t just resurrect a phenomenon, it will not work, people want new things, plus gagnam style wasn’t anything significant culturally, its beauty was because of this, so nobody needs it
If you want to live in the past then sure I guess. It was a beautiful fleeting moment and should be treated as such. I know what oil you’d pick in the matrix for sure.
SIU still tours to this day and performs Gangnam Style with the same liveliness and vigor of when it was released. I could agree with you and say that it deserves a comeback, but the way social media works you get your spotlight for some time and eventually the spotlight will fade.
The song made its mark and touched the hearts of many, comebacks aren’t needed when you become a legend.
I mean ‘Despacito’ was also a global anthem 5 years later
You can be that guy who requests this from the wedding dj.
Be the change you want to see in the world
Global anthem? What are you 13? It was a meme song. If you’re gonna choose a global anthem then fucking hell at least choose something meaningful rather than haha funny man dance song.
