Genuinely curious, how are Americans feeling about things in their country right now?

r/

This is not a troll question, obviously there are many worse countries in the world, but I’m genuinely curious what are your feelings on your country based on the extremes currently being experienced there (not just political but in many other aspects aswelll)

Everyone with an IQ above room temperature is pissed off and afraid for their lives. We did not vote for this, we did not want this. Many of us are wondering when someone will grow the balls to actually stop the treasonous cheeto. So far everyone in the position to do so has rolled over for him for cash or the promise of more power.

This is only happening because his uneducated cult hates people who different than them more than they care about literally anything else.

I’m perpetually angry. There’s no reason we shouldn’t be leading the world in green energy and science and human rights.

We’re backsliding because Fox News and a million dickless podcast bros are convincing our dumbest people that they should vote against their own self-interest.

  5. Routine-Crew8651 Avatar

I’m European, but went to grad school in the US and have several friends there. None of them support the current government and are embarrassed by the situation. Most of them want to move away, and some are making the plans to do so. The average Trump supporter is not a good representation of the average American. A large number of his voters have turned against him, too.

Having 2 kids, one special needs, one a daughter, it’s terrifying. I hope they are someday welcomed to another country, as I don’t think we will recover from this any time soon

    Quite frankly I am horrified!
I have always been slightly embarrassed to be an american because of the lack of care provided an intelligent society.
Under this current administration, I am deeply horrified.
I am ashamed that so many of my countrymen would believe a lying self-promoting narcissist.
    The embracing of a fascist.
    I cannot even begin to
    Explain or condone their support.
I am a fan of history, and we, as a collective, choose not to learn from any history.
The avarice continues to condemn our species.

The food cards have already been slashed down in my family. We’re stocking up on cans, dry goods (rice/pasta), and meat for the freezer before prices skyrocket.

I have already moved back home to my European country. My parents and godparents are returning in 3 years. I feel awful for my little sister (divorced) who has 2 kids and can’t just abscond from the country until her children are old enough to choose a parent to live with. I feel fear for my best friend, who lives with her Hispanic gf who has tattoos.

Nobody is safe. I feel so much shame for how our nation has fallen. And so incredibly quickly. It’s literally Hitler round 2. The free speech we were known for is no more. The corruption is so blatant that we’re choking on it. What liberty? What justice for all? It’s nothing. Hope is lost.

It was said about every President beforehand. End of the country. We’ve lost allies, no respect, blah, blah, blah. When Obama was POTUS, I used to find republicans insufferable. Now the pendulum has moved back to Democrats being the biggest and loudest assholes.

As a Belgian myself, I also wonder this. I do follow popular YouTube channels such as MeidasTouch and some others, to see reactions of whats going on. But YT is hardly a real representation of the truth what people think. It mostly very very anti-Trump content, which I like tho. But is there a increase of anti-Trumpism on the rise? Bernie Sanders for instance is pushing it hard now. Some republicans are also starting to call out Doge, the ridiculous tarifs. In any case we live in strange and uncertain times.

I’ve basically lost hope for the future.

I now live in a nightmare world in which evil has won, and brings misery and death on a near-daily basis. Greed is king. Empathy is sin. Ignorance is strength.

All the decent decisions I’ve made—not all of them great, mind, but enough them good—all the hard work and long hours I’ve put in, all the kindness and charity I’ve put out, none of that matters now.

Teacher here. I’m honestly not feeling great about the direction of the country…especially when it comes to education. The attack on public schools has been going on for years, and now my state just fast-tracked a voucher program that essentially lets public money follow students to private schools. It’s like taking tax dollars meant for the community and handing them to private businesses.

Class sizes are exploding. There’s no accountability for student behavior, many parents don’t engage, and kids are checked out. I used to be able to just teach and go home, but now it feels like a war zone.

My district is even allowing Christian-based lessons now. I’m a Christian myself, but in a public school with Muslim, Hindu, and atheist students? That doesn’t sit right. We just elected far-right board members who push book bans based on false narratives about teachers pushing agendas. Most of that stuff is just not happening, but people believe it anyway.

Honestly, the division in this country is being fueled by both political sides and the media and it’s exhausting. I used to feel proud to be American. Now, I’m not so sure what we stand for anymore. I’m politically moderate, but it feels like the extremes are running the show, and we’re the ones paying the price.

It’s hard to be positive at all. Many of us have seen the writing on the wall for decades and here we are. It’s still shocking daily; the reckless, cruel, seemingly pointless things this admin is doing to everything that we hold dear. Education, science, medicine, civil rights, and civility in general. History repeating itself right before our eyes.

Then there is the betrayal and disgust. We knew what this admin said they wanted to do and they are doing it. But dealing with family, friends, coworkers who support this shit or watching some start to fall for it is the worst part. How can these people be respected or trusted ever again? The sheer stupidity and willful ignorance of people hurts most of all. The anger knowing that the idiots who voted for this evil scum have screwed us all. The fact that even if they realize it in their heart of hearts, many will never have the balls to take responsibility and admit they were wrong and continue to scapegoat everyone else.

It’s absolutely awful, depressing, and maddening. We only have so much we can do and the powers that be refuse to act. I hold on to hope that something will give sooner than later, but I’m skeptical.

We are watching the world’s most insecure, deranged, narcissistic man play out his petty revenge fantasies with seemingly no consequences. Destroying and forever changing the world for the worse to suit one shitty person. It’s embarrassing, engaging, dangerous, and beyond shameful.

I’ve been terrified of the direction we’ve been taking. I think it’s horrible how we are undoing all the progress of the last 50 years. Our treatment of our friends and Allie’s is unforgivable. Trump is an evil clown with no clue what he is doing. He’s governing by senility. I never thought we’d be here.

To be honest, I don’t feel safe or welcome anymore. Pretty much anywhere. He has changed the way I view my fellow Americans, that close to 50 percent still support him. Still. I don’t think our country will be the same again.

The damage he has dine will last decades.

I feel like I’m going insane.
I live in a very blue state and the vast majority of people I know are concerned about the current situation, but why does NO ONE SEEM TO HAVE ANY URGENCY OR AGENCY?

It’s just “oh yeah, that’s bad. so anyway, work and beers” or whatever their regular life is.

And I’m not expecting much, honestly. I am so so so annoyed by the “why aren’t Americans like the French with protest” posts because the answer is that our ability to live is connected to our employment and none of us have any employment protections. I have two kids with chronic health conditions, I am not sacrificing my children’s health by striking for a bunch of morons who voted for this situation.
And that’s the situation like half of America is in.

I have an immense, like embarrassing amount, pride and love in my homeland…. But that’s not tied to the US. It’s regional, I’ll do anything for fellow New Englanders, but Oklahoma can get fucked. They’ve been dragging us down for centuries and I’m ready to cut them off.

And I get SO MAD when the stupid red pricks are like “lol people in cities would be fucked without us rural farmers.” YEAH GOOD LUCK LIVING OFF 500 ACRES OF SOYBEANS, FUCKFACE.” Without the city and trade programs in which you trade your soybeans for money, all you have is soybeans and yourself. At least people in cities have each other, not a perfect system, but there’s brains there.

I’m so sorry this just turned into a nonsensical rant. Thanks for the free therapy lol.

Its similar to the UK tbf. We have elected a government who we thought were better than the last lot. I mean they are definitely better than the US lot but our bar is higher. I thought since beginning of blair and end of cameron we were on a good run of PMs and governments. But since Cameron left us with Brexit it has been very disappointing. These cant be the best of the best. I dont have any faith in any of the parties to be able to govern a country properly. There are such glaring issues in both countries and yet no one is fixing them. They were elected for change and its more of the same. BUT at least our lot understand basic economic theory.
