I’ve trained at gyms of all types and there’s something about ghetto gyms that bring out the best in me. Luxury or commercial gyms feel like a mall or a library where you have to act civil and respectful of the environment around you. Ghetto gyms you don’t feel any shame in making noise or taking up space. I also find they play the best music. Instead of having a whole sound system where they play Maroon 5 or safe music that won’t offend anyone, they play old school hip hop or old school rock. It’s honestly the best experience.

Definitely unpopular, upvoted. Carry your own headphones and the music a gym’s playing will not matter to you at all.

I don’t think this is looked down upon in nicer gyms either as long as you’re not overdoing the grunting and slamming. I prefer nicer gyms because their equipment and shower facilities tend to be much cleaner. The one I go to is full of finance and tech professionals so I’ve even met some very interesting people in my field.
