Give up this career path?

Hey all,

I’m struggling to find the motivation to chase this career dream of mine. I’ve submitted 7 applications (2 for Police Officer, 5 for Auxiliary (Volunteer) Officer) and have been shot down every single time.

I’m 21 pursuing a BA in Economics, have over 3 years volunteering and going on ride alongs with our provincial service, clean record (criminal + traffic), clean off drugs, president of my student association, and community volunteer experience. I have numerous sergeant references, as well as countless officer references. Am I that bad of a candidate I can’t even get volunteer uniformed positions?

I’m just getting no offers on anything. I’ve made it to numerous final stages, while being passed up. I genuinely know it’s not my background but for some reason I haven’t landed any offers? All of this rejection does really negatively affect my feel on landing this career, and maybe it’s time to pull out and focus on pursuing something else?

I appreciate all the support in advance. If there are any tips that you can relay to me to stay on the right path, keep myself motivated, and to become a better candidate I appreciate it.

Giving up at 21 is wild to me.
I’m 41 and still actively applying. I’ve done a lot in my life but I’ve always wanted to be a police officer, so I keep trying.
If it’s what you want, keep trying.

You may need to look into moving if your locals aren’t hiring. Look into hiring bonuses that can help you with that if it’s feasible.

Otherwise, get in touch with the recruiters and ask what’s the problem. Try and get a general idea and see if your issue is the same for each agency

I was an officer and am now a member of a profession that would be beneficial for officers to have around and was denied a reserve officer slot based on lack of scheduling availability, i.e. the amount of time I was willing to volunteer, lol. Perhaps also I was not impressed enough by their attempt at a panel stress interview. Normally, I am the interviewer.

Canadian Federal Corrections is hiring hard right now. Jump into it for a few years to pad your resume. Had at least 4 guys at my institution work Csc for a few years than switched over to the RCMP

You’re 21. You graduated high school 3 years ago man. Get some life experience then apply.

21 and getting shot down for police officer position is whatever. Expected.

I’m confused though, you’ve been shot down for auxiliary 5 times but you’re already volunteering with OPP? Can you clarify?

Apply to work in a jail for the sheriffs office. Then go to patrol. You’re VERY young, and have so much time ahead of you. Working in the jail can give you some life experience too
