Going to the dentist is an experience that one should celebrate and be excited for.

r/

Everyone loves to hate on the dentist. Kids, and many adults, are terrified of having their teeth cleaned or have basic dental repairs done. Some people even need to have sedatives given for procedures that are normally done fully awake. I personally love going to dentist for a number of reasons and I feel like the overal dental experience is underrated. Here’s why…

  1. You get the best, deepest flossing at the dentist. Dentists know how deep you’re supposed to go when you floss (which is much deeper than the average person usually flosses), leaving your gums sore in the best way. That soreness lasts all day and it’s a very pleasant sort of pain.

  2. Getting novacaine shots feels so good, the little pinch feeling wakes you up and gives you that endorphin rush.

  3. Getting your teeth drilled creates that nice smell that comes from grinding teeth against metal.

  4. After all of the pleasure pain of the experience, your teeth are shiny clean!

I love the dentist, and you should too.

id like it more if my teeth didn’t always hurt after, like someone moved them all to a different angle that makes them grind together uncomfortably.

and if they wouldn’t shit on me for only going twice a year. its not my fault its expensive 😭

i agree. especially about the shot. my dentist said “ive never seen someone laugh while getting a novocaine shot” sometimes i lie that i can still feel things so they give me another. i like the adrenaline. it makes me feel alive. everythjng else about the dentist blows tho.

I’d like it more if I didn’t have dental trauma caused by dentists who refused to listen to me when I said that I was in pain.

I agree. Teeth are so important. My last dentist though was very pushy with up selling without offering to show x-rays justifying needing expensive procedures that my insurance wouldn’t cover. I started to feel tapped out after giving them a lot of money in such a short period of time that I didn’t opt for something I really needed. Now I really, really need it.

So that actually turns me off more than the pain factor. Find a dentist you trust is key. And hope your dental insurance doesn’t suck.

I do love the feeling of getting my teeth flossed by a dentist. They really know how to take care of business

I’ve never hated going to the dentist. Never once has a cavity. Nice chit chat. All around decent experience every time

I love getting my teeth cleaned. I go every three months for deep cleaning because I want to. The flossing and polishing feels so good to me. I’m not with you on any of your bullet points, though. I don’t want the pain if I can avoid it.

Eh I haven’t gone since I was like 14, so I’m genuinely scared to go. I don’t have a lot of pain I guess so I haven’t felt a need.

I love going to the dentist too. I worked as a treatment plan coordinator and dental assistant for a few years. In our office, we had 2 hygienists – 1 who was so gentle you could barely feel her, & 1 who’s tray was always filled with bloody gauze at the end of appointments. I preferred the 2nd one😂

Went to the dentist for a cleaning. Minimal pain and mild discomfort.

Turns out I have cavities in both of my partially rupted wisdom teeth. I’ll need an oral surgeon to get them removed, since they don’t do fillings on wisdom teeth.

I have no money :(. So I have to live with the knowledge that I’ll eventually have to deal with tooth pain if I can’t get enough money saved up for an oral surgeon.

    NOT A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE

mine has a therapy dog for people who are anxious to be there, so it makes visits more enjoyable.

Upvoted because this is definitely an unpopular opinion! I don’t necessarily enjoy the experience of going to the dentist but I do appreciate the importance of good dental care and for that I also actually look forward to dental appointments. I’ve had one or two dentists compliment the state of my teeth before, so it’s also nice to get validation that my regular flossing has paid off.

Last time I went to the dentist, they froze the wrong side of my mouth and almost tried to fill a tooth that already had a filling before I was like “uhh, what are you doing?” Then I had to have the other side of my face frozen and the proper filling done and my entire face was numb. That was actually awful, so no thanks.

And before that, they installed a replacement lingual wire so badly it caused nerve pain in one of my teeth that they told me was in my head until the wire broke off and released all the pressure it was causing on my tooth. I had to deal with that for months because nah, couldn’t have been their fault.

Just a normal cleaning is painless. If you floss and brush your teeth twice a day, there should honestly be very few issues at the dentist.

Wow, I didn’t know they had reddit in the dentist’s office of Orin Scrivello

Dont humans have something where we usually enjoy the feeling of pressure/poking on our gums because it stimulates the tissue and keeps it healthy?

I hate you for number 3 tho btw 🥰
