I end up buying more at the grocery store when I’m hungry. It prevents me from eating out or making smaller snack purchases that come with a high mark up at my local convenience store. 5 months from now during a snow storm, hungry me will thank me for stocking up on frozen pizza

Sounds like you just don’t know how to manage finances well.
It’s never mattered that much for me. I typically know what I’m going to get before I go. And I try to curtail junk food anyway. So if I go when I’m hungry, and I think oh spaghetti sounds nice. I think I’m going to buy some noodles and sauce, that’s fine. It’ll last and I’ll make it later.
I just have never known it to make a difference; I have a budget, I make a list, whether or not I am hungry won’t change that I can’t afford to deviate from the budget
I’m married but wife and I buy 90% the same stuff each week. It might change based on a casserole or party we’re hosting but this opinion has little impact on me.
For me the problem is buying too much stuff if I go when hungry. So your reason for liking it is why I dislike it. I prefer to stick to my list. It prevents waste while still helping me not need to eat out
I completely agree! If I go to the store when I’m not hungry, nothing looks or sounds good. I’ll end up with almost nothing in my cart.
If one has enough storage / freezer space, it’s not so bad, but otherwise it’s food waste.
Lol, buying groceries definitely doesn’t stop me from picking up fast food on the way home.
I use the three strike method. I take a specific list, but I am allowed 3 items not on the list. Keeps me on budget and gives some surprises to my shops.
