Good afternoon, I hope someone can help

In September of 2024 my wife and I purchased our first home in Location: Saint Louis Missouri through the VA, the following month we discovered that a window in our front room was leaking. Thinking nothing nefarious of it, I patched the window up myself. A few months later I was away on military orders and in April of 2025 it began leaking again. My wife brought her parents over to come check it out and possibly do a better repair job. Her father checked it from the outside and discovered fire damage in the crawl space attic by the window. I wish I could attach photos. There was nothing in our sellers disclosure about a fire, we contacted our realtor and she contacted the previous two owners and they claimed to know nothing about a fire occurring at the residence and even asked if it was possible that our house was hit by lightning. So we submitted a request with our local fire department for records and just got the documents back, as it turns out the home did in fact burn in 2021. The last owner of this home was a flipper so we just want any advice you all can offer going forward on how to approach this.
