Got a traffic ticket while visiting USA. What should I do?

r/

Location: Virginia
Hi guys. I came here with a tourist visa and just got pull over by the cop in VA state. He gave me 2 tickets one is for improper lane changes and the second one is driving without license. I tried to pay online but the court system only allows me to pay the improper lane change ticket but not the other. I already went back to my home country and my court date is the end of April. My question is what happen if I can attend to the court? Will I allow to re-entry to the U.S. for unpaid tickets? Should I hire a lawyer to represent me? tIA

Do you plan on returning to the US?

This isn’t legal advice but I had a ticket in VA and found out about when living in another state. I was able to coordinate with the courthouse by email and take care of everything.

On the tickets you received there should be an email address where you can do this. If not the website could help. Good luck.

if you plan to come back to the US, and not pay the fine, just stay out of Virginia. there is no extradition between states, so if you get stopped in another state they won’t cart you back to virginia.

Email and call. Not worth creating a BS warrant for yourself which could negatively color any future travel to the US (even if you think you may never go there again, life is very long).
