Got hurt at work. They are forcing me to use PTO. What are my options? Location: Illinois

I work in dietary at a nursing home. I was in full uniform (scrubs and tennis shoes with good tread). I spilled hot water on my foot while carrying a boiling pot of water. Burned me really bad and I slipped and fell in the water. I have a severe burn on my foot and fractured my arm. I went to prompt care that they sent me to for drug test and everything. (Came back negative obviously) The doctor said I need to be off work for atlleast a week and they will check everything on my next appointment. Work is making me use PTO for all the days I’m not working even though the doctor said I cannot work. I told them I want to do a claim for workman’s comp. They said I still have to use my pto until the adjuster talks to me. The injury happened on a Monday. Adjuster called called Tuesday and I missed the call while I was taking a bath I called back 20 minute later. No answers left a voice-mail. Tried calling again Wednesday and today and still no word back. I talked to my hr and they said oh she is probably taking a long vacation for the holiday weekend. So I asked if I still have to use pto even though she is not available and they said yes I have to. What are my options? I can’t use my pto right now were buying a house and I’ve been saving them for moving week. They really seem to be giving me the run around. I don’t know what to do next. I can’t waste my pto, but I also can’t sit around for atleast a week not getting paid. Location: Illinois.

Not a lawyer – am a payroll manager. My employer requires the use of PTO also. Any workers’ compensation insurance checks issued will be issued directly to the employee (you).
