hi! i was recently sued by my old roommates mother over completely cosmetic damage to a 12 year old loveseat that i offered several solutions to fix, including $300+ for a replacement. they did not show up to the court date, and i have undeniable proof that they were lying the entire time about at least the age, if not the value as well. i had to take several days off work to prepare and to go to court, miss classes and tests the day of the hearing, and have honestly been so stressed over this i’ve been consistently losing weight since the whole thing began. my old roommate was consistently extremely rude during the entire process, calling me a bitch, stupid, etc and constantly insulting me, had their boyfriend comment on my social media about the case (he even posted a picture of evidence in the case), and refused to help properly clean the apartment before we moved out because “they’d been living at home over the summer so it’s not their responsibility” (even though it was required in the lease) so i and our other roommate had to clean almost everything (and also go behind them and fix everything that they “cleaned”), and more. their mother, the one suing, was again lying about at least the age of the sofa and probably the value as well. and, it wasn’t even her property to sue over anymore as she gifted it to the roommate at the beginning of our lease. i also feel that they were trying to use suing me as an intimidation tactic, as my old roommate texted me after i was served and tried to settle for several hundred dollars less than what their mother was suing for (but still more than the sofa is actually worth). they wasted both my and the courts time and money knowing they had no real case for negligence, and have caused me severe stress throughout this process, so im wondering if i can do anything legally in response, if it’s even worth the time and money to try to respond legally, or if i should just post a storytime on tiktok or something and let the court of public opinion do it’s job lmao.
i tried to share as much info here as i can without making it extremely obvious who i am as i believe the old roommate uses reddit, but if anyone has any questions please feel free to ask for more detailed information !

They sued but didn’t show up so you got a default judgement, case closed. Be the bigger person and let it be water under the bridge, don’t do anything! Live and let live!
