We are often told that grades do not determine your worth. Well, most successful, functioning members of society have good grades. Doctors, lawyers, engineers, people working in high finance, architects and so on.
Without grades you can’t do anything.
Furthermore grades are a very solid indicator of discipline. Students with high grades are often the most hardworking and resilient and delay thier gratification.
Lastly, try saying “grades don’t determine your worth” to any student from non western countries. Especially east and south east Asian countries. They’ll laugh at you.
Let’s take China and India for example. If you have bad grades in those societies, you’re nothing. Simple as.
I’m tired if this false notion that somehow grades don’t determine your worth. They clearly do.

The unfortunate reality is you’re right. Saying grades don’t determine one’s worth is a little bit of a cope parents say to children who have done badly.
Of course people who will disagree with you will mention the three occupations that grades are irrelevant (entrepreneur, sex work and the military) as if these prove you wrong. Exceptions prove the rule.
