Thank You to a Stranger Who Was a Lifeline for My Daughter ๐โ๏ธ
Hoping the magic of the internet might help me find an incredibly kind man who made a world of difference for my daughter (Zoe) on a flight today.
She was flying from LaGuardia (LGA) to Greenville-Spartanburg (GSP) when a kind off-duty NYPD officer seated beside her offered comfort at the exact moment she needed it most. She wasnโt anxious about the flight โ she was heartbroken. Our time together had fallen short in more ways than one: Iโd been sick for much of her visit, and we missed out on the moments weโd both been looking forward to. That goodbye was heavy, especially with the grief of losing my mother โ her Nahna โ and the healing the two of us have been working through.
He saw her. And he offered exactly the kind of steady, heartfelt presence she needed. Telling her that he could tell she was strong and empathetic, that sheโd clearly been through a lot โ but that she was resilient and full of light. Before takeoff, he FaceTimed his mom, and even she sweetly spoke to my daughter. Stepping in with those kind words is priceless to a mother’s heart.
Random list of what I know about him:
* He works for the NYPD
* He wore a green jumpsuit, and my daughter had on Kelly green sweatpants โ he joked they both had on their lucky pants
* He has three children โ one in California, one with the Chicago PD, and one who may be a U.S. Marshal or FBI agent
* He was flying to GSP to visit one of them
* Heโs Dominican ๐ฉ๐ด (which feels especially meaningful, as I live in Hamilton Heights)
* His mother lives in the Bronx
* He spoke to my daughter like a father would, and Iโll never forget his compassion ๐ค
If you know someone who fits this description, please let him know this:
A grateful mom is sending so much love and gratitude his way โ and wants him to know just how much his presence and kindness meant to both of us.
๐ Thank you, green jumpsuit hero. . . this world needs more people like you!
