Guys who came from a design related field and transitioned jobs/careers, how did you do it?

r/

I’m 37, I started work in retail sales assistant for 7 years, then I got work as a video games tester at a developer, then as an artist for 2 years.

I’ve worked since as an artworker for 7 years at a journal then 3 at a marketing agency as a leader of a small team. I made forms mostly but I specialise in indesign, acrobat and Photoshop.

I have a degree in cg art but basically my skill set is in quickly learning new skills and applying them. I’m a generalist.

I’m expecting a promotion any time soon as I do most of the duties of a middle manager without the title. But should things not work out this month I’m going to start looking for another job.

I feel like the market is just so all over the place. I want a job that pays at least the national average of 35k GBP but it looks like everywhere wants decades of experience but offers less than starting salary.

I’m debating jumping to a different field too, just can’t figure out what.

I’m really looking for ideas, did any of you start on a design field and transition? I’m looking for better pay and if possible better job security.

Just feel very lost right now.
