Gyno appt and nerves

r/

I’m having my first gyno exam in 20 years, I’m 39 and avoided doctors for my adult life. That’s changing now.
Is it inappropriate to ask the doctor’s office if they can prescribe a Valium or something for the appointment? I’m already trying to make excuses to not go and I’m afraid I’ll convince myself if I can’t do something to quell my anxiety and fear of pain.

You can request it for sure, they may or may not oblige. Be sure to request only a single dose so as not to appear as a drug seeker.

What I can tell you is if they ever tell you you need a biopsy, or any kind of ‘opsy on your junk, and offer to do it on the spot- DO NOT do it on the spot! (Unless it’s emergent.)

It is not “maybe some cramping and a bit of pressure”.

Do you have a friend that can go with you to hold your hand?
