Exploding head syndrome:
https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/21907-exploding-head-syndrome-ehs
I hear weird shit in my head all the time when I’m falling asleep. This goes from random bumps and bangs to doors closing and people breathing. The weird part is I can tell when it’s in my head versus out in the world, but I don’t know how to explain that this loud, almost tangible and real sounding sound came from my mind instead of flowing into my ears. It’s like an uncanny valley where I “hear” it but it’s fake enough my brain knows the difference.
Oh wow I have this sometimes. I’ll be laying in bed. BAM. WTF WAS THAT. nothing happened just in my head
That’s such a relatable and oddly funny moment—our brains really do have a flair for late-night drama sometimes
It’s called exploding head syndrome
When it happens to me, I sometimes think of it like our brains being a pissy teacher from the 1990s that would slam a book on your desk if you dared to nod off in high school.
I’ve heard “bangs” or a “boom” in my head before that woke me up.
I experience this and had no idea it was a known thing. I hear bumps and bangs and voices that cease to exist when I sit up and listen for them.
Thanks everyone! Now I know to look up Exploding head syndrome.
Yup. It’s a thing. Look it up.
Too frequently!!!
Yep, used to. It was so annoying to face against. Like…just leave me alone and let me go back to sleep!
Yes yes yes. I had one last night. They don’t happen often. But THANK YOU times a million for asking this because now I know what the hell it is.
I’ve had a very load roaring a few times, but never screams.
