Has anyone here fallen out of love with teaching? How did you get it back—or did you leave?

I used to be excited to walk into the classroom. Lately, it feels like I’m just going through the motions. Between admin pressure, disrespect, burnout and lately terrible students (they seem to get worse with each passing year), I’m starting to wonder if I’m in the wrong job/getting stale. Has anyone made it through this slump and come out the other side?

a friend of mine took a break from teaching in class and then eventually moved out of public schools to private. the environment, kids and parents were just too hard to deal with in public school. his last straw was he had a transfer student from egypt (11) come up to him when he was sitting down and simulated cutting off his head DURING CLASS with a ruler. full on dragging the ruler across his throat. When he took the student to admin the school out of sake of tolerance did nothing to the child, he quit that job that day.
