Have you ever met your doppelganger or been mistaken for someone else?

r/

I saw apparently there might be 6 people out there who look similar to you. Have you met one or been mistaken for someone?

since 1990, I’ve been intermittently mistaken for someone else.

first incident, a dude run up to me at an airport and kissed me on the lips only to get really embarrassed when he realised I wasn’t who he thought I was.

for nearly an entire year, the woman would arrive and leave a deli, half am hour before me. I only realised when a new staff member asked me why I came back so quickly.

I got face tattoos and thought that that would help. nope.

  3. point50tracer Avatar

There’s a local store with an employee who looks just like me. I was in the parking lot one day and another customer looks at me kinda weird then asked if I’m related to the employee. I laughed and replied no, but I know which employee they’re referring to.

  4. revtim Avatar

In a couple places I lived as a kid I was told I looked just like somebody a person knew. I never met any of these doppelgangers.

  5. Agitated-Annual-3527 Avatar

Once every year or two somebody asks if I’m Penn Jillette.

  6. SlammingMomma Avatar

Yep. Always stopped because someone thought I was a famous person. Usually, it’s 1 of the four people. Sometimes it’s someone I’ve never heard of. Sometimes people figure out who I am and I blush a bit.

There are a few people that people have mistook me for someone else that wasn’t famous to me. Ruined my life. Not sure what that girl did, but I’m not her.

  7. Shoddy-Outcome3868 Avatar

I’m a nurse and am constantly told by patients that I look like a family member. I think I just have a “generic white lady” look. I had a patient once with dementia who was convinced I was her granddaughter and when family members came in, they’d take a double take. They showed me a picture and yeah, I guess a passable doppelgänger. She did whatever I asked and took all her meds though. I ended up in a bunch of pictures, smiling with the patient at bedside so that’s fun.

  8. LowBalance4404 Avatar

Yes, and apparently her name is Kate. I get stopped about once a month and have for the last couple of years when I’m at grocery stores and things like that directly in my area. It’s very odd.

  9. Ok-Caterpillar7331 Avatar

Yes. 2002 I go through McDonald’s drive thru and the person taking my money was my twin we looked at each other very confused. I drove off and never saw him again.

  10. Material_Occasion565 Avatar

I once saw another girl on the train playform that for a split second I thought was me and then I remembered I was me. Even my friend turned around and said “I thought that girl was you”

  11. Free_Young_8457 Avatar

    constantly got this at work

  12. chikn2d Avatar

Several times. I’ve had people approach me on the street or in a restaurant and start a conversation like we were long lost friends. They always say I look just like so and so. At a music festival about ten years ago, some guy swore I was John Malkovich. He would not leave me alone and thought I was pretending not to be John in a effort to shoo him off. It was a funny encounter. After much trying, I finally convinced him that I was, in fact, not John Malkovich.

    I haven’t personally met my doppelganger(s).

  13. masterP168 Avatar

no, I have such a distinct look

but I have seen my brother’s doppelganger at Denny’s restaurant. my brother lives in another city and I honestly mistook this guy for my brother

same look, same mannerisms, same way of dressing, same haircut, same glasses

  14. Jay-Quellin30 Avatar

All the time. The other day someone was approaching me calling me Teresa.

    Wrong person

  15. Wonderful_Price2355 Avatar

I’ve been assaulted 4 times by people who thought I was my twin brother.

    Does that count?

  16. PlantRetard Avatar

I keep getting asked if I have a sister. I think I have one of these faces, or an actual doppelganger in the same city

  17. Silentlaughter84 Avatar

Never met any of mine, but I have been mistaken for someone else. I was going into a store to grab me some beer and this lady starts shouting, Hey! I continue into the store and get my beer and head out, and she starts shouting again. “Hey, I’m talking to ya!” So I walked back over to her and asked if I knew her and she asked if I was someone called Mountain or something like that, I just tell her no and I walk on.

  18. Sad_Construction_668 Avatar

There’s two- my kids had a high school English teacher that was my doppelgänger, I met him once. He asked my ex wife (also a teacher ) out after we got divorced, but my kids made fun of her for dating me again, so she turned him down.

The other guy was a dude named Kevin, who lived in Kansas City, and worked in the trades. I never met him, but I had 4 different people over a decade at various times and places, including the job site, come up to me , convinced I was their friend Kevin.

    Sadly, I was not.

  19. lonelyronin1 Avatar

My doppelganger’s name is Karen, we have never met, but enough of her friends would come up to me mistaking me for her that I started asking them who they thought I was.

Really weird was my friend saw someone getting into my boyfriend’s taxi cab and thought it was me. He came home and told me he picked someone up that looked a lot like me. He could have had an affair with her and no one would realize even if they went out in public.

I ended up moving out of the city before we could meet – I’m sure she had a lot of weird stories.

  20. AdhesiveSeaMonkey Avatar

I get Billy Joel from people quite often. Sadly, Christie hasn’t been one of them.

  21. ingracioth Avatar

Used to knock doors sometimes. A lady opened the door one day and we just stared at each other in shock. It was like a mirror- similar haircuts and outfits too. Never seen anyone, even in my own family, that’s that much of a dead ringer. I’m also pretty sure that’s part of the reason she agreed to volunteer w the org I was working for. She was super nice, hope she’s doing well.

  22. Crystalraf Avatar

I have a doppelganger in every city almost. Everywhere I go, I’m someone that you used to know.

I’ve always wanted a twin, a best friend, but she’s always not around, idk.

If I put my hair in a ponytail tail and put on a visor, I look like a bunch of people. It’s almost like I’m Keira Knightly. I have similar facial features as her. If you watch her in all her movies, she is almost unrecognizable in each one. She has a flat face, so depending on what they do makeup-wise and costume-wise, she looks a lot different.

I’m your old high school friend, your granddaughter, your best friend’s ex. I’ll be your Huckleberry.

  23. Ok-Class-1451 Avatar

That happened to my husband recently. I was there. Some woman came up to my husband like a fan-girl and asked him if he was the dentist from Severance. My husband has actually gotten mistaken for that same actor for decades now.

  24. Dmahf0806 Avatar

No, but apparently, there is someone who looks exactly like me working in a fish and chips shop in Norwich.

  25. davidwb45133 Avatar

For several years I made a monthly business trip upstate and I’d have dinner at a nice Gastropub one night. One evening the bartender waved when I walked in and asked, “The usual?” I didn’t think I’d been there often enough to have a usual but what the he’ll. He poured an Irish Red Ale and started chatting as if he knew me. That happened several times and then one evening he waved when I came in and said, “There’s somebody you have to meet.” At the corner of the bar stood my twin. It was uncanny and kind of scary. We figured we had no relations in common but it was weird that we could pass for twins and had similar tastes.

  26. Abner_Cadaver Avatar

I have had a guy run across the street waving, I have had a drink bought for me, and I have been thrown out of a bar because of resemblance to people I don’t know. There were another dozen or so times when someone came up and said,”Aren’t you ________?” It stopped when I turned grey. I have a standard issue face. “Joe Ordinary”.

  27. No-Diamond-5097 Avatar

I’ve never met my doppelganger, but I have had several people tell me that they saw me at a certain place when I had never been there before or when I was somewhere else.

  28. seragrey Avatar

i’ve been mistaken for someone else many times, but when i ask to see a picture of the person they claim looks JUST LIKE ME, they don’t look like me at all… i have gaps in my teeth, a big nose, & very specific features. your friend without gaps in their teeth isn’t me. i feel like a lot of people don’t know what other people actually look like if they aren’t in front of them.

  29. Trick_Ad7122 Avatar

I regulary get mistaken for erling haaland….

  30. mittenknittin Avatar

Several years ago there was someone in the area who apparently looked enough like me that twice in a couple of months, two different people at different public places gave me the side eye, then came up to me and asked if I worked at (X) local store. Nope. I never found out who she was either.

  31. HyperDogOwner458 Avatar

This kid came up to me and called me his mum. When I turned around, he saw that I wasn’t and then left.

  32. Zealousideal_Ad_8736 Avatar

When I was in HS, a new student who had previously lived in (I think) Minnesota, came up to me and said, ‘You are a dead ringer for a kid I used to go to school with!” A few days later, she brought in her yearbook and the kid really did look like me., and it wasn’t just one picture with the right lighting or right angle, it was all of them

A couple of years later she got his senior class photo of him, and there was still a strong resemblance, but he had grown a bit (got heavier and his hair got darker), but it still was creepy.

  33. DesignerCorner3322 Avatar

At my job we have lots of other locations and i get asked at least once a month ‘hey haven’t I seen you before? don’t you work downtown?’ i say no. I later go and help out at the branch, and a worker there mentions that there are patrons who think we are the same person. We do not look alike or even act alike. Our styles are VERY different. The only commonalities we share is that we’re white women with round glasses, long hair, and deeper monotone voices. Shes taller than me, blonde, dresses kind of like a mom and is heavier set. I’m short, have medium brown hair, dress in mostly black/somewhat corpo goth and am a bit chubby.

We look basically nothing alike. it was really disappointing. I really thought I had a doppelganger!

  34. punkwalrus Avatar

My first wife resembled someone who had apparently really fucked over the local biker community. This was shortly after we got married, and some biker friends of mine wanted to know “who is that? You sure? You sure it’s not [other person]?” For about two years, sometimes she’d get stopped, and then, “Hey. HEY– Oh… sorry, I thought you were someone else.” I don’t know what this other person did to my biker friends, and I was too afraid to ask.

  35. MaxDaClog Avatar

I was one mistaken for someone who gives a shit. I politely corrected their bad assumption.

  36. KremKaramela Avatar

When we were young my cousin and I were looking so similar, my husband first saw my cousin and liked, then met me thinking he is meeting the person he liked. Then saw 2 of us together. 🤣 And no, they would have never made it!

  37. JarJarBinksSucks Avatar

So often and so many that I thought we were the result of a mad scientists experiment of nature/nurture

  38. F_word_paperhands Avatar

I was at the store with my kids and there was a box for an inflatable kayak with a picture of a guy sitting in the kayak. My kids were like “is that you dad” and a I laughed then did a double take and said “holy shit! IS that me?!”

  39. BakedMitten Avatar

When I was in college a friend of mine sent a photo of a guy that looked just like me. My buddy had seen him at a bar, walked up and slapped him on the back thinking it was me. A few weeks later I ran into the guy in a parking lot on campus. The freakiest part about it was we drove almost identical cars as well. Same make, same model, same color, one model year different.

I was getting out of my jetta to go to class, he was parked a few spaces away and coming back to his car to leave. When we saw each other we just starred at the other for a few seconds and then turned away without exchanging a word. I was worried we would create a rift in the space time continuum if we interacted

  40. DisMyLik18thAccount Avatar

I’ve Been briefly mistaken for Taylor Swift before

  41. Efarm12 Avatar

when I was younger and I had a beard, I was mistaken for peoples best friends/acquaintances, you name it. No beard, nada. I even had to show this one guy my ID to calm him down. He totally thought I was pranking him. I kinda miss it.

  42. Trucktard-1976 Avatar

Yes. Several other women apparently look like me in the general area.

  43. Graychin877 Avatar

A high school classmate was sure he ran into me in a Walmart – in another town. They had a detailed conversation that he told me about. He still hasn’t figured out who my doppelgänger was. (We have seen each other fairly often over the years.)

  44. AdultinginCali Avatar

I’ve gotten my whole life, “you must be so and so’s girl? Sister or auntie. No one ever has a picture for comparison.

  45. Groovy_Chainsaw Avatar

I used to help a friend who worked as a wedding DJ. We once went to a dance club to borrow some equipment from the club DJ. While we were there, we saw a guy with the total 90s dance club look ( turtleneck with gold chain over it ) and he could’ve been my twin brother, even though I was more of a college rock fan and looked like it. We referred to him as ” Disco Groovy_Chainsaw “

  46. PawsbeforePeople1313 Avatar

I’m a weird looking mix of Italian immigrant and Canadian immigrant. No one has ever said I look like anyone they know, but I’ve gotten a lot of “your humor/personality reminds me of “insert name”. That’s the closest I’ve gotten.

  47. hiker1628 Avatar

At one time years ago, someone yelled out “Dan”. Later a friend told me I resembled Dan Akroyd.

  48. dkpatkar Avatar

I met a person who looked 90% like me

  49. snakeravencat Avatar

Apparently I just have “one of those faces” or at least did in my younger days. Almost every time I’d meet a new group of people I got the “omg, you look just like [name]”.

  50. Bridgeburner1 Avatar

I’ve been told by several people that I have a resemblance to Arn Anderson. I had to look him up. Maybe not striking, but close.

  51. kantbykilt Avatar

When people say that I look like someone they know, I always say “lucky them” or “They must be a handsome fellow”.

  52. HoneyBunnyBiscuit Avatar

When I was younger, there were a couple other girls I’d get mistaken for. It happened maybe 3 or 4 times, all with different people. I never thought I looked like them, but we were in the same friend group. It hasn’t happened in many years though

  53. brak-0666 Avatar

Never met my doppelganger, but i know he lives in Philadelphia.

  54. CrazyCatLady1127 Avatar

I once saw my dad’s doppelgänger at the train station, which freaked me out good and proper because my dad had passed away 10 years earlier

  55. MySweetAudrina Avatar

Not personally, but one day I SWORE I saw my brother at the store. It wasn’t him, but I didn’t realize it until I was about 6 feet from him. I actually took a sneaky picture (I know, creepy, but the resemblance was uncanny) on my cell. When I showed my brothers girlfriend she was sure it was him. HE even looked at it and was a little weirded out by it. The funny part is my brother IS a twin, but they are fraternal.

  56. Short-pitched Avatar

Yes, like not met him but an actor in Bollywood looked just like me few years ago. Someone showed me his film and I changed my hair style right away

  57. gudy2shuz Avatar

Many years ago when I was probably 12, I turned a corner in a store to see……..me. This was in podunk nowhere Tennessee. He was turning the same corner. There we were, face to face. Same height, hair color, eye color. We just looked at each other with this sort of deer-in-the-headlights stare, and kept on walking. Not a word spoken.

  58. GoldFannypackYo Avatar

There is someone who people mistake for me and people will come tell me I have a doppelganger but no one knows her name.

I got mistaken for Sadie Sink once when I used to dye my hair orange. Not sure why someone thought that Sadie would be at a local 7-11.

  60. sableleigh1 Avatar

I,ve been mistaken a lot of times for other people…on vacation in Cuba, a fellow vacationers wife wanted her picture with me, I said sure. She obviously thought I was someone famous… another time ,lady at gas station yelling at me that I owe her money…. never been there before, last year, mistaken for store owner, 200 miles from here,,,. Been called Paul a lot, Jeff a few times…nope just me.. all in all, I,m average weight and height, dark hair, eyes, stash… so average looks familiar everywhere…

  61. millygraceandfee Avatar

Somewhere in my town there exists a girl who looks like me. I’ve never see her, but she comes up quite often from other people. Or I get the “I met you at so ‘n’ so” & I was never there.

  62. WinnerAwkward480 Avatar

A few yrs back sitting in a beach bar , this lady comes up from behind me and rubs her tits all over top of my head , then starts running her fingers thru my hair saying damn I best time last weekend. She then spins the barstool around and jumps up in my lap grabs my crotch and gives me a long kiss then says so what do you say ???. I suppose I was sorta slack jawed at the time and trying to process what just occurred. I glance over to see the barmaid leaning against the back counter looking at us . The friendly lady goes cat got your tounge David , ah yeah well I’m Randall but you could call me David if you want … She sat in my lap staring at me for what seemed minutes, and she goes NO NO turns my face side to side and says OH NO mister I I I as she jumps outta my lap with her hand in front of her going I’m so sorry I thought ……

  63. bloopie1192 Avatar

Never met him. But ive heard about him from multiple ppl. It’s strange because some said he looks like he takes better care of himself than me. I can’t even deny that. I didn’t put any effort into my appearance back then.

Heard ppl mistake him for me at times then I get a phone call asking if I’m somewhere that I’m not. Even heard from a stranger that I look, walk and talk like their nephew. But I’m not that guy, pal… I’m not that guy.

  64. GuiltyCelebrations Avatar

Yes. But then again, I am a twin.

Just started going to a community event held twice a week, but I only go once. Apparently, my doppelgänger attends the other day, but the kindly older lady who let me know told me that “her eyes aren’t as beautiful.” It got awkward.

  67. grayjelly212 Avatar

When I was in elementary school, there was a girl everyone hated that looked just like me. It made me so miserable I ended up hating her the most lol.

Visiting my cousin in another state, and he had told me there was a guy who lived in his complex that was my double.
We were swimming later that day in the complex pool, and a woman hugged me from behind and said “What are you doing home from work?” She then realized that I wasn’t her husband. “Oh my God! You need to come to apt.xx when my husband gets home”. We did and he answered the door. It was like looking in the mirror. We were both a bit freaked out.

  69. psychobrit2008 Avatar

When I moved states, I had 4 people in this little neighborhood approach me and just start chatting like we were friends. Like people at the store working mistook me for them, asked me how stuff worked out with stuff I didn’t even buy. Like they would chat for a bit while I would look at them confused before they eventually would lean in and then go oh sorry wrong person.

I never saw the other me, but she seemed way more social than me. 😅

  70. AfterSomewhere Avatar

Yep, I saw her on a bus when I was 18 or 19. I was sitting behind her, she was sitting sideways, and I couldn’t stop staring.

  74. Plastic_Salary_4084 Avatar

I had a coworker named Chad who looked and dressed like me, and we had a similar affect. For much of my life, people have mistakenly called me Josh. My name is not similar to Josh. Like, not even close.

One day at work, Chad said “I didn’t believe you about the Josh thing until yesterday. Someone kept paging Josh to the desk, and when they saw me later that day, they said ‘why didn’t you answer when I kept paging you? Did you not hear me call for Josh to the desk?’”

I had worked there for several years by this point, and we wore name tags at this job, btw. Even my mother has called me Josh by mistake.

Not gonna share my name, but I learned that other people with my name also got called Josh a lot? Curious if anyone reading this has had this experience and knows what my name is.

  75. landshark11 Avatar

Seriously? All the time. I’m the generic brunette

  76. SynonymSpice Avatar

Before we were married, my fiancé and I went on a tour of a local winery. One of the other visitors was a ringer for ME about ten years younger, back when I had a white boy ‘fro same color as mine, and glasses shaped like Easy Rider’s shades.

I pointed him out to my fiancée, and she remarked that she thought I was right beside her.

  77. alwaysworried2722222 Avatar

Yes, when I was 23 I moved in with my sons father a little town over from mine.. apparently there was a girl named Stephanie I was mistaken for almost daily that was a stripper that stole from a ton of people around there so I had to square up twice over whoever that girl was, good times.

  78. dadspeed55 Avatar

My vagabond cousin. He moved into a house j was renting and my landlord lived next door. Total lease violation and he tried his best to stay out of sight. My landlord finally caught him taking out the trash one day. Fortunately we looked very much alike and my landlord was blind in one eye so he just thought my cousin was me.

Also, my cousin would do card tricks at the only bar in town for free beer tokens. I would go in occasionally to get a six pack and all the bar flies mistook me for him and harassed me for more magic tricks.

  79. RIPdon_sutton Avatar

I was told that I looked like a kid named Pacey from some show I can’t remember the name of, and also one of the Younger brothers. I’ve seen pics of both of these cats and both of them are way better looking, and therefore do NOT resemble me in any way. Doppelgänger? Not even close.

  80. madbamajama1 Avatar

Apparently my doppelganger was the “other woman” in a nasty divorce case, because a group of the wife’s friends accosted me in a nightclub ladies’ room and were about to kick my ass before one of them realized I might not be her.

  81. bordermelancollie09 Avatar

Not me, but my husband. Probably once a month, someone stops him and they’ll be like “hey man! How’s it going?! Or, oh, wait? You’re not..are you Jack?” And he’s like “nope still not Jack!”

The best was when he just went along with it for a minute and once the guy paid a little more attention he was like “huh, this is uh, this is not your wife?” like almost whispering it. And my husband was like “no this is my wife, this just isn’t Jack’s wife.” Poor guy was so confused lol. It’s so funny though. One of these days we gotta meet this Jack guy

  82. JackdawsShantyMan Avatar

Lol, many, many times. On the bus, just walking down the street, at the store. I just have one of those faces, I guess.

  83. weedtrek Avatar

I haven’t met him, but there is another me in this town. I believe he is the culinary director at the local university, which is weird to me because I’m also professional cook. I’ve had family members and store clerks all confuse us.

  84. AnonMuskkk Avatar

A friend of my family, who I never met because i live abroad, was 99% my parallel universe twin. I didn’t believe it until I saw photos of him they’d taken at a birthday party at his home. My young nephews/nieces would often run up to embrace him on first meeting, thinking it was me.

He died a couple of years ago. He was apparently a much nicer likeable version of me according to my mother. I believe that.

  85. Sad_Evidence5318 Avatar

    Yeah my whole dang family

  86. DoctorSelfDestruct Avatar

I have an identical twin brother. We went to the same college. One day a girl I kind of knew asked if I had a twin brother. I said “Yes!” She says “I’m in xxxxxx class with him.” See my brother the next day. “Are you in xxxxxx with so-and-so?” Brother “No?” Apparently we had a random doppelgänger walking around campus.

  87. eatshoney Avatar

I have been mistaken for others many times however there was apparently one fellow teenager that lived just one town over from me. I worked in her town as a cashier so people would talk to me like they knew me but would soon realize I wasn’t her. It got uncomfortable with two guys because they apparently saw her doing some sexy things and assumed I was fair game. I remember their embarrassment when they realized they were treating a stranger like they had seen me naked. The closest I came to meeting her was at a big party with lots of people from both of our towns. We just missed each other but it caused some confusion for the people around us. Some thought I had changed clothes others thought I had returned to the party, stuff like that.

  88. Hollow-Official Avatar

I have a twin so yeah, literally constantly 🤣

  90. SonOfJokeExplainer Avatar

I went to high school with my doppelgänger. He was actually two years younger than me but we looked enough alike that people genuinely confused us for one another all of the time. People I’d known for years confused him for me, and vice versa. When I bumped into him for the first time there was mutual recognition. We even had the same build and hairstyle. He had better teeth than me so I always joked that he was my 2.0

  91. LumpyWelder4258 Avatar

No but in all seriousness my ex boyfriend’s wife looks a LOT like me

  92. Medical_Condition252 Avatar

Many years ago I was on holiday in Co Kerry with some friends. We were staying in a cottage about 2 miles outside Kenmare. We had one tiny car that could only hold 4 people comfortably so when it was time to go into town two of us would walk while the others took the car. We had a rotation system so everyone had a turn walking/ hitchhiking.

This particular day P and myself were the walkers. It was overcast and looking a bit rainy so we stuck our thumbs out when any vehicle passed us

To our great surprise a woman with a small child stopped to give us a lift. I should add we were 19/20 at the time. Anyway, in we get and we thank her and small talk about the weather and such . Then she starts to ask me oddly specific questions about my mother ( who was a hundred mikes away) and it dawns on me that she thinks I’m someone else.

I mention this to her and she says aren’t you so-and-so and when I say no she literally freaks out and starts screaming at me that I’m a con artist/ murderer/ rapist . all the while her little one is panicking, she’s driving erratically and me and P are shitting ourselves that we are going to die.

We implore her to stop the car and let us out which she does while theatening us with the Gardaí and she speeds off leaving us bemused and bewildered, but at least, half a mile nearer our destination.

We never figured out who I was supposed to be and in the few days left we never ran into me despite asking around

I haven’t thought about that for a long while but I will never forget it

When I was in high school I looked like a celebrity who was on a soap opera. I’d had people tell me that before. Then when I first met my ex husband he actually asked me for my autograph. I don’t think we look much alike now. She’s grown from soap operas to movies and probably gets treatments or whatever to not look as old as we actually are now. I just age.

    YES ALL THE TIME

People always think I’m someone else. It’s eerie af tbh.

One time I waved to a girl I knew. That girl was me in a mirror. Soooo opposite?

Almost every where I’ve gone in life, someone told me they knew someone who looked like me.

I had a new coworker start who looked EXACTLY like me. Everyone was calling up doppelgängers and constantly mixed us up. I sometimes got confused looking at her because it felt like I was looking at myself from a different perspective haha

A few weeks ago, I was stopped by a fella who did a double take and told me I look like Russel Crowe. It happens quite often.
I walked into a little shop in a town I’d never been to, about 200 miles from where I live. The woman behind the counter looked at me and put some stuff on the counter. She thought i was a local who had come in for his order.
    It wasn’t Russel Crowe either

The woman my ex dated after me looked so much like me, people thought I was still with him for years after we broke up.

Yes. There is another woman who apparently looks like me living in our small city. I’ve had people come up to me and greet me with her name or ask me if I’m her sister or related. Weirdly I did a river trip with her in the mid 90s and I have a photo of us together, leaning against a boat, but I didn’t and still don’t see the resemblance.

When I was about 12 or 13, my mom and I traveled to a different state to visit some friends. I was spending the night with my best friend when her mom called us into the living room. There was a policeman there and he was saying I was someone I wasn’t, and that I was a runaway and he was taking me home. I told him my mom knows where I am, my name was not the same as the girl they were looking for, and I wasn’t going anywhere. I called my mom in tears, and she rushed over. She was only 15 minutes away. When she got there, she had to show them my birth certificate. The policeman showed us a picture of the girl he was looking for and she did indeed look just like me! It was crazy!!

Once I was visiting Seattle to see friends and I picked a random photo out of a bush downtown. The photo was of a guy that looked exactly like me in a cap and gown taking a bong hit

My ex is seeing someone a mutual friend refers to as “Dollar Store Me“. The mutual friend sent me pics (unsolicited), and while the person in question looks nothing like I do now, they bear a striking resemblance to how I looked in when we dated. Like not in a super creepy way- they’re about my age, just a slighter weight and build. But it was still odd to see. She could play my twin sister in movie.

Well, I was mistaken for somebody with a really similar name, who I worked with. The guy shot somebody and everyone thought I did it at first. But we didn’t look that much alike.

Some lady came up to me in a store and physically grabbed my arm and shrieked, “LEEANNA!?!” Directly in to my face. I’m not very tall so she was bending her knees slightly and was right up to me, super overjoyed to see “Leeanna” and I had way less backbone then, so I sort of just stared at her while she gazed chaotically into my face expecting me to squeal in delight. “Leeanna!?!” I started to pull away because she’s still fondling my arm and chirps, “Oh, I’m sorry! I thought you were Leeanna!” I’m pretty sure at one point she thought I was Leeanna PRETENDING not to know who she was.

Also, don’t go grabbing people until you get their confirmation that it’s who you think they are. Jesus.

I fucking hate being touched by people I don’t know.

I was emptying rubbish bins on a rural run and a customer came out and started yarning with me like we went way back, he seemed surprised to see me doing the job that I was and I was confused as to should I know this person, didn’t help that my doppelganger also it turns out lived on the same street as me when the guy asked if I was still living on xxxxx street, it wasn’t until he asked why I had left the council and if I was still involved with the fire brigade that I clicked he had the wrong guy. A fairly small population of 3180 in the town where I live and have ended up on school camp a couple of times with my doppelganger, even the kids on occasion would get us mixed up if I was wearing long pants (my legs are tattooed).

yes, one of my closest friends in hs, me and one of the girls who bullied me were constantly mistaken for each other by teachers and other classmates, bc the three of us were short, brown-haired, brown-eyed with round glasses, additionally we dressed the same or similarly and me and that third girl had a similar body type

When I lived in small city, about 20 years ago, so many people thought I was a guy named Michael (not my name btw). I mean dozens would stop me with “Hey, Michael!” or “OMG Michael!” I mean it happened all the time with so many people.

I want to meet this Michael!!!

  111. Royal-tiny1 Avatar

It will never happen again because he died 😭😩. But people confused my brother and I all the time and when we were together we were always asked if we were twins. For the record he was older by 3 years.

My cousin looked very much like me. I got people telling me they saw me in the most insane places and I did not greet them when they waved or shouted hallo etc. All the while I sat peacefully at home just being boring old me🙄

When I was in college I spent time moving around between NYC and Ohio and Chicago. I was talking to a friend on the phone who lived in NY (this is pre-internet and pre-cell-phone) and he said “I saw you on the other platform at Astor on the 6 and I waved at you but you didn’t wave back.”

I said. “I’m in Ohio. I’m calling you from my college in Ohio.”

    Silence.

“That was YOU. I know it was YOU. Your coat. Your nose.”

Reader, it was not me. But I do believe that he was sincere about who he thought he saw. It just was not me.
